Role Description

Working on shifts, reporting to the Site Services Manager, this role is part of a team that will proactively manage Asset Care to ensure equipment performance is maximised and optimised. The role makes a positive contribution to planning and executing all Asset Care activity on shift, scheduling planned maintenance, responding to breakdowns and undertaking timely root cause analysis and corrective action. It plays a proactive role in developing Autonomous Maintenance within operations as part of the wider engineering team, operating within Health, Safety & Environmental legislation and site policies.

Plays a Proactive Role in the Asset Care element of the Engineering function on shift to help the site achieve optimal operational efficiency at lowest cost through delivery of targets against the Strategic Objectives of the Group Supply Function.

Work closely with the Shift Engineering, Manufacturing and Quality leaders, peer groups and the Site Asset Care Planner to support delivery of an agreed Group Asset Care Strategy for the site.


Key Relationships

* Engineering Shift Leader, Canning Asset Care Manager and Asset Care Planner, Shift Managers, Team Leaders, Engineering Peer Group, Manufacturing Team, Quality Team, Logistics Team and Site Services team when applicable. CI when applicable for training and development.


Key Responsibilities

* Safety, Quality, Hygiene
* Undertake duties responsibly, giving due consideration to Safety, Environmental & Quality procedures, which are part of the Integrated Management System.
* Ensure work undertaken conforms to legislative requirements.
* Embrace a culture of safe behaviour and contractor health and safety within the production and engineering areas.
* Embrace a culture enhancing behavioural awareness to reduce accidents, incidents and near misses.
* Maintain product Food Safety, Legality, Integrity, Authenticity and Quality standards by ensuring all associated policies and procedures are adhered to.
* Asset Management – provide proactive, fast and effective response to all breakdowns across the shift.
* Execute planned asset care activities as directed from the Asset Care team.
* Support development of efficient and effective asset care programs to improve equipment reliability and availability across the site, standardising the asset care approach with the drive to ensure effective maintenance systems.
* Support the development of the asset care strategy for the site.
* Support the drive from reactive to proactive with targets of 80% of Engineering work planned in advance, 20% of engineering time on CI with 75% known utilisation of engineers.
* Ensure cost of maintenance and maintaining assets is transparent and known.
* Support by actively embracing and utilising SAP PM and other systems to drive planning, control and focused improvements.
* Training and development of Autonomous maintenance on shift.
* Stores Management Support – support the Stores development programme by ensuring proper use of the SAP system and associated technology when utilising material resources (Spares) as part of a work order or a project.
* Site Services and Energy Management Support – support the Site Services team when on a shift with no specific cover, ensuring fast and effective response to breakdowns and performance‑related issues, adhering to statutory compliance and performance standards for environmental impact and continuity of supply.
* Understand and support the site services KPI framework to drive performance standards of Water, Air, Gas, Electricity and Steam.
* Support the Site Services team and wider engineering remit in understanding the Group Energy strategy framework to drive continuous improvements in energy consumption and cost reduction.
* Site Electrical Management – work within site electrical standards, ensuring minimum compliance with current relevant legislation and Princes group standards.
* When required and coordinated through the engineering Shift Lead, be prepared to work with the site Electrical Duty holder who will support with the complete compliance programme.
* Site Capital Plan – when applicable support capital projects through proactive involvement either when assigned to a specific team for input and actions or ensuring the shift team is trained and developed in any new installations.
* Continuous Improvement – understand working practices associated with CI, proactively using 5S, GMP, RCA and other continuous improvement tools to identify areas for improvement and optimise productive capability of the plant.
* Understand how performance is measured and make up, to play a proactive role in identifying and implementing opportunities to improve equipment reliability and efficiency using available tools.
* Challenge the status quo, support a culture of best practice and continuous improvement focused on eliminating waste in all forms across the shift.
* Manage/Develop People – within the Group standard Training Needs analysis framework (MEOSI), look to develop own skills for the betterment of the shift.
* Within the Asset Management framework, particularly Autonomous Maintenance, this role has responsibility to develop AM routines, document and train and sign off where appropriate Manufacturing personnel.
* Challenge work practices and processes to achieve improved operational performance.
* Develop a culture of ownership within the team for ongoing development of equipment.
* Conduct self in accordance with site values and behaviours at all times.
* Technical Leadership – support the Engineering Shift Leader as the first point of Engineering support for the wider shift.
* Apply defined best practice in all engineering and maintenance matters.
* Learn and gain full understanding of fundamentals of the production processes at the factory, introducing new technology and management procedures that improve the cost base and competitive position of the factory.
* Communication – work as part of a team with shift peers to realise objective‑based performance and drive the site forward on its improvement targets within the Princes Manufacturing System framework.
* Support the Shift Lead with communication to other shifts and peers for efficient and effective transition and sharing of best practice.
* Work closely with the functional engineering department to help realise the Asset Care philosophy and technological developments through new equipment and systems.


Experience Required

* HNC or equivalent in an Electrical or multi‑skilled engineering discipline, hands‑on experience with a demonstrable track record of success.
* PLC fault‑finding and programming – Siemens preferable.
* IEE/IET 17th Edition preferable.
* Demonstrable track record of achieving results / managing change.
* Strong operational grounding within a complex fast‑moving manufacturing environment.
* Operated and familiar with implementation of principles of World Class Manufacturing environments / Continuous Improvement methodologies.
* Good working knowledge of operating systems such as SAP, Microsoft Word and Excel.
* Good written and verbal communication skills.
* Key experience of operating utilities plant; effluent treatment, steam raising plant, compressors and fridge plant.
