The Director of Accounting & Administration EU is responsible for the financial leadership, statutory compliance, and administrative oversight of Group EU entities. This role acts as the senior finance lead in the EU, ensuring robust financial control, accurate reporting, effective cash management, and strong governance, while partnering with Group Finance on strategy, performance, and growth initiatives.
This is a hands-on leadership role, combining technical accounting expertise with commercial insight and people management.
Key Responsibilities
* Full responsibility for the financial management of all EU legal entities.
* Ensure timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting in line with relevant jurisdictional GAAP / IFRS and Group reporting requirements.
* Oversee general ledger, balance sheet integrity, reconciliations, and month-end close processes.
* Develop and maintain strong internal controls and financial policies.
Statutory & Regulatory Compliance
* Lead statutory accounts preparation and liaison with external auditors.
* Ensure compliance with relevant jurisdictional tax obligations including Corporation Tax, VAT, PAYE, and other statutory filings.
* Act as primary EU finance contact for HMRC, auditors, banks, and external advisors.
* Ensure compliance with Companies House and other regulatory requirements.
Budgeting, Forecasting & Performance
* Lead annual budgeting and periodic forecasting processes for EU entities.
* Provide variance analysis, management reporting, and financial insights to EU and Group leadership.
* Support business decision-making through financial modelling and scenario analysis.
Cash, Treasury & Risk
* Manage cash flow forecasting, working capital, and liquidity across EU entities.
* Oversee banking relationships and treasury processes.
* Identify financial risks and implement mitigation strategies.
Leadership & Administration
* Lead and develop the EU finance and administration team including HR & Payroll.
* Set clear objectives, manage performance, and support professional development.
* Oversee non-finance administrative functions as required (e.g. insurance, contracts, systems, and vendor management).
Group & Strategic Support
* Act as a key liaison between EU operations and Group Finance.
* Support M&A activity, integrations, and post-acquisition harmonisation.
* Contribute to finance systems improvements, process standardisation, and operational efficiencies.
* Provide financial input into strategic initiatives and growth plans.
* Undertake any other duties as may reasonably be required to support the effective operation and growth of the group.
Key Skills & Experience
* ACA / ACCA / CIMA (or equivalent) qualified accountant.
* Significant post-qualification experience in a senior finance role (Financial Controller, Finance Director, or equivalent).
* Strong knowledge of EU statutory accounting, tax, and regulatory requirements.
* Experience managing multiple legal entities.
* Proven leadership and people management experience.
* Strong analytical, organisational, and communication skills.
* Ability to operate both strategically and hands‑on.
* Experience within group or international organisations.
* Exposure to M&A, integrations, or rapid‑growth environments.
* Experience in professional services, laboratory, scientific, or technical sectors.
* Systems implementation or ERP experience.
This salary for the role will be £60,000 - £80,000 dependent on skills and experience.
