An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and motivated nurse leader to join our Acute Admission Unit as a Band 7 Ward Manager on a 12-month fixed-term basis.
You will lead a dynamic 24-bedded ward delivering high-quality care to acutely unwell patients admitted directly from the Emergency Department. This is a fast-paced, rewarding environment where strong clinical leadership, decision-making, and a passion for patient flow are essential.
As Ward Manager, you will play a key role in driving standards of care, supporting and developing staff, and ensuring safe, effective, and compassionate care delivery. You will work closely with the multidisciplinary team to enhance patient experience, improve flow, and contribute to ongoing service development within acute medicine.

Main duties of the job
1. Professional lead for the nursing service of the ward
2. Promote and encourage research, audit, education and training within the Nursing team to maintain the AHSC vision of delivering world class care and achieving excellence in all aspects of its business
3. Work with the Matron and multidisciplinary department managers to maintain Service Development and Quality Management.
4. Manage the quality, performance and finance of the ward.

Essential criteria
5. Registered Nurse (NMC register)
6. Educated to degree level or equivalent
7. Post registration qualification
8. Mentorship & Assessment in the clinical area or equivalent
9. Recognised management qualification or equivalent experience.
Desirable criteria
10. Critical Care course

11. Experience of managing /leading a team and coordinating workload
12. Experience of staff/ HR, appraisals and budget management
13. Demonstrate the use audit to improve the quality of the service and patient care
14. Change management
15. Initiating investigations of incidents, accidents and complaints.
16. 3 years in a medical assessment unit with at least 2 years at band 6
