Job Description:
Our multi-disciplinary client is looking for a technically strong, creative, and passionate Senior Civil Engineer with experience in managing others to join their Leeds team. Working within a supportive and welcoming team, the role involves producing efficient, high-quality technical designs for both new build and refurbishment projects. The role:
* Manage external consultant designs for projects, ensuring information is collated and passed to relevant departments.
* Oversee engineering works on-site and answer technical questions as needed.
* Ensure sites are adopted and handed over to relevant authorities after completion, including roads, sewers, services, and management company land.
* Assist with training and mentoring staff, especially in Civil Engineering site design.
* Deliver accurate, cost-effective design information for costing and construction.
* Liaise with clients to ensure designs meet their requirements.
* Attend monthly project reviews and update the team on engineering-related site issues.
* Provide technical support to internal and external teams.
* Assist departments with internal drawings.
* Ensure compliance and quality checks of subcontractor design elements.
* Coordinate with consultant engineers and architects to resolve issues and update information.
* Identify potential design improvements and value engineering opportunities.
* Anticipate problems and develop cost-effective solutions.
* Conduct weekly site visits, including photography.
* Perform pre-start investigations or surveys as needed.
What you need to succeed:
* Knowledge of local authority standards.
* Strong skills in Civil Engineering design, including site levels, earthworks calculations, and drainage solutions.
* Understanding of Structural Engineering principles and collaboration with consultants.
* Experience liaising with architects, clients, subcontractors, supply chain, and manufacturers.
* Continuous learning and improvement in engineering techniques.
* Ability to manage workload and prioritize tasks independently or within a team.
* Health and safety awareness and confidence to question unsafe procedures.
* Proficiency in AutoCAD and LSS design software (or equivalents).
* Competence in Windows packages (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Project).
* Experience using GPS, TPS, Grade Lasers, and Dumpy Levels.
* Experience working on construction sites with a good understanding of construction methods up to DPC.
* Knowledge of onsite materials, machinery, and equipment.
* Understanding of sectional agreements, NAVs, and related processes.
* Ability to review and analyze drainage reports.
* Experience drawing internal plans such as CTMPs, phasing plans, and as-builts.
* Skills in level checking, surveying, measuring, and volume calculations.
* Understanding of adoption procedures and timeframes.
* Experience designing, constructing, and adopting pump stations.
* Ability to liaise with solicitors regarding easements and land transfer during adoption.
* Capability to perform snagging for commercial and pricing purposes.
