Condover College Ltd is a small and independent specialist college and residential care provider in the heart of Shropshire.
We support learners aged 18+ who have moderate to severe learning disabilities, profound and multiple learning difficulties and additional complex needs. At CCL we believe that the people we support are entitled to the same rights, choices and opportunities as people who do not have disabilities and that it is our responsibility to support them to exercise these rights to lead a fulfilling life.
This role is 52 weeks per year.
General Description
To work under the day-to-day guidance and supervision of an Opportunities Manager to act in a support role, including arranging and leading on activities, creating resources, updating learner information, etc.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
To work directly with learners in providing high-quality and varied activities and events
· To act as a positive role model for the learners and be ambitious for them
· To promote a positive atmosphere to enhance the learners' experiences and life
· To maintain confidentiality and ensure that safeguarding learners is paramount and promote a positive safeguarding culture at all times
· To assist the learners with their personal intimate care including the changing of incontinence aids, washing and dressing
· To communicate with the learners in their preferred method of communication an adult to adult approach
· To teach and encourage learners to be as independent as possible in all areas of their life.
· To participate in the implementation of the personal care plans and assist in maintaining the wellbeing, dignity, quality of life and environments of the learners
· To ensure risk assessments are carried out and completed for all activities, outings and events
· To ensure that learners are empowered at every reasonable opportunity to make decisions and take control over their lives.
· To create an enabling environment so that learners can develop real community connections, friendships, hobbies, and interests.
· To be creative in involving the learners in planning which ensures they remain at the centre of decision making when arranging activities and events.
· To liaise with external professionals
· To work to provide a flexible service which is responsive to individual needs.
· To regularly review learners needs, the programme of activities and levels of participation, in conjunction with Management.
· To assist the team to ensure continuous quality improvement of the service
· To attend staff meetings and when required chair these meetings requested by the Opportunities Manager
· To act as a positive role model for staff, act as a link person to ensure good communication between all areas of the opportunities programme and Manger and supervise staff
· To carry out any other duties compatible with the post
