Overview

Supporting your overall wellbeing with counselling, mental health support, life management, medical guidance, and helpful resources.

Olivia is our friendly virtual assistant, available to support you navigate through the application process 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Whether it's late at night or over the weekend, she's on hand to answer your questions, guide you through the application process, or help you find what you need. Olivia can answer common questions, guide candidates through application steps, arrange interviews and provide timely updates to help make the application process smoother and easier to navigate. Please note that Olivia cannot make hiring decisions; those are made by human recruiters.

Before we can employ you, we are required to verify your eligibility to work in the UK & Ireland. Acceptable documents to evidence your right to work can be found here. You’ll need to provide original documents such as a valid passport or a valid UK/Ireland visa (with a college letter listing term dates, where applicable). Only original documents will be accepted.

Interview process

The interview is an absolutely vital part of our hiring process. It helps us understand the kind of person you are and whether you’d be a great fit at McDonald's. The interview will normally involve questions around values and attitudes and will allow you to show us why you're the right person for the job. For instance, we might ask for examples of times you've worked as part of a team and how you made a difference. We hire for qualities and potential, rather than qualifications, to deliver a great customer and colleague experience.

Prospects at McDonald's

Our employees tend to stay with us. There are opportunities to progress into roles with more responsibility. For example, 9 out of 10 of our restaurant managers, and 1 in 5 of our franchisees, started out as crew members. We are recognised as a leading employer with award-winning learning, nationally-recognised qualifications, comprehensive benefits, flexible working arrangements, and a clear career path.

What you’ll be asked to do at an interview

Typical guidance emphasizes a can-do attitude, teamwork, friendliness, courtesy and helpful behaviour. Effective communication, attentive listening, and the ability to stay energetic and productive are essential. You’ll be expected to engage with customers, connect with them, and ensure they feel valued.

McDonald's values and environment

McDonald's stands on core values: Serve, Inclusion, Integrity, Community and Family. We are committed to a safe, respectful and inclusive workplace, providing quality jobs, and making opportunity open to all. Join us to be part of a team that works together to provide the best customer experience—hot food in a clean and friendly restaurant. As a Crew Member, you'll contribute by preparing food, serving on the till, or attending to customers in dining areas, while delivering the highest standards of quality, service and cleanliness and following training and company guidelines.

Responsibilities (Crew Member)

* Provide friendly, fast and accurate service.
* Complete tasks in line with training, guidelines and management direction.
* Follow workplace safety, security and food hygiene procedures.
* Treat customers and colleagues with courtesy and respect; work as a supportive team member.

Benefits and schedule

Benefits include: Holiday pay, Service Awards, Meal allowance, and Employee discounts from top brands. Some shifts may align with school hours (typical shifts start between 9:00 and 10:00 and finish between 14:30 and 15:30), with 1–5 shifts per week (hours to be agreed at interview). Premium shifts apply for overnight hours (midnight to 5:00 a.m.). Every team member earns above the national minimum wage, with additional benefits such as holiday and sick pay and employee discounts at over 1,600 retailers.

Interview scheduling and sustainability

If you cannot make any interview slots, you can contact Olivia to rearrange. McDonald's has sustainability plans, including net-zero restaurant initiatives announced in 2021. Further details are available in the provided materials.

Pay and shifts

Payout frequency varies by restaurant type (franchised vs company-owned). Typical pay is every 2 or 4 weeks for hourly staff, and monthly for salaried employees. Restaurant hours vary by location, with many locations open 24 hours. Shifts are scheduled to suit both business needs and personal availability.

Attire and advancement

You will be provided with a uniform. McDonald's promotes from within; many leaders began in frontline roles, and there are opportunities to advance based on merit and potential.
