Summers Nursery at Victoria Street are looking for a Baby Room Leader/Assistant Manager.
The position involves working 40 hours per week over four regular days of 7:30am - 6:00pm, with one regular day off each week. 33 Days holidays per year.
We are looking for a special candidate with strong leadership and communication skills to lead the team and ensure smooth running of the room. You will be required to work in conjunction with the Manager and Director(s) to ensure that the Nursery is a safe, fun, and happy place for children and staff. You will ensure a high standard of childcare is attained within the Nursery and that good communication takes place between all staff and parents. You will provide support to the Manager and Directors in the general running of the Nursery, providing support to staff, ensuring Health and Safety standards are high and carry out any other necessary tasks. You will be expected to assume complete control of the Nursery when the Manager is absent or on holiday.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES & TASKS
· To read, understand, implement and adhere to all policies and procedures and risk assessments of the Nursery, including fulfilling the role of Designated Room Leader as set out in the Policy and Procedure on room management, staffing and record keeping.
· To assist the Manager and Directors with the monitoring of health and safety for children and staff.
· To lead and support staff, doing regular observations and support meetings when required.
· To plan all outings and visits for your designated room, arranging for risk assessments to be carried out prior to any outing.
· To ensure that proper hygiene controls are in place for the provision of meals to children.
· To ensure that as far as possible all sensible precautions are taken to ensure a safe and clean environment is provided for both children and staff.
· To ensure a high level of communication between staff and parents.
· Maintain childcare and staff records as required.
· To lead and contribute to the planning of child activities in accordance with the Curriculum and ensure that activity plans are fully implemented.
· To manage child observations, maintain and ensure all child Interactive Learning Diaries are up to date in your room, along with child reports etc.
· To manage and maintain children's personal plans in your room, having knowledge and understanding of each child's medical, dietary and allergy requirements, as well as those children who have additional support needs.
· To update the nursery Facebook page for your room and contribute to the newsletter every term.
· Manage staff when the Manager and Directors are not present.
· Assume control of the Nursery when the Manager is absent or on holiday.
· Maintain and manage room registers and child intake as required.
· Maintain confidentiality showing respect for children, parents and colleagues.
· Be a good role model for staff, showing a commitment to the Nursery management and an interest in developing good practice and implementing change.
· To work in partnership with parents, valuing their role as key figures in their child's life, being non-judgmental and adhering to the confidentiality policy of the Nursery.
· To become involved in the settling in procedure for new children to the Nursery, negotiating with parents as to their preferred way of introducing their child to the Nursery, supporting each child with transition from home to nursery, and when moving rooms.
· To participate in and contribute to regular staff meetings and training so as to improve skills and knowledge and develop a positive attitude which enhances best practice.
· To assist trainees and work experience students in their training, offering support and encouragement.
· To compile and implement development plans for your room, collecting evidence on an on-going basis.
· To implement and manage the Curriculum in your room in liaison with external Government Agencies.
· Nappy changing, food preparation and general cleaning duties.
· Any other reasonable task requested of you by the Manager or Directors of the Nursery.
· To register with the SSSC and maintain your CPD file, as well as assisting with the monitoring of the staff CPD files in your room.
