The Fetal Medicine Service at Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals is the tertiary referral centre for the North East and North Cumbria. As part of a multi‑disciplinary team you will provide leadership and midwifery direction to inform the future evolution of the Service.
This is a new role and therefore offers an exciting opportunity to influence and introduce equitable and effective care pathways locally, regionally and nationally while championing the role of the Midwife.

Main duties of the job
You will provide expert practice, advice and consultancy for patients, carers and colleagues within Fetal Medicine both locally and nationally. You will lead practice and service developments, ensuring clinical excellence underpinned by evidence‑based practice. To do this you will undertake complex audit projects, use research methodology to evaluate inter‑professional systems, and work towards initiating research.
You will act as a clinical and professional role model, representing the Fetal Medicine Service and wider Perinatal Service to influence development locally and nationally. You will deliver and shape the development of multi‑professional education and training.

Job responsibilities
The post holder will be a clinical expert in Fetal Medicine and Obstetric Ultrasound, providing leadership and midwifery direction to inform the future evolution of the Service across Newcastle, the North East and North Cumbria. The role fulfils the four domains of the NMAHP Consultant Function:
* Advanced and expert level practice within Fetal Medicine

Person Specification
Essential Qualifications & Education
* Registered Midwife
* Current NMC registration
* Master’s degree or evidence of pathway to Master’s level
* Specialist education related to clinical expertise
Desirable Qualifications
* Doctorate or in progress
Essential Knowledge & Experience
* Evidence of supervision and assessment in practice
* Knowledge of relevant NHS policy and project context
* Understanding of safeguarding (adult/child)
* Highly developed specialist practice applying theory to practice
* Expert knowledge in research, education and leadership within the field
* Extensive clinical and audit/research experience
* Experience contributing to regional or national professional development
Desirable Experience
* Professional leadership at regional or national level
