Offer description

Work with our most vulnerable children. Be part of something that truly matters.

We are looking for passionate, skilled, and compassionate Social Workers to join our Children with Disabilities Service.

This is more than just a job. It’s an opportunity to build meaningful relationships and make a lasting difference in the lives of children with complex needs and their families.

If you believe every child deserves to be seen, heard, and supported to thrive, we want to hear from you.

Cheshire West and Chester Council is a place where everyone can Thrive – through our core values of Teamwork, Honesty, Respect, Innovation, Value for Money and Empowerment.

About the Role

As a Social Worker within our Children with Disabilities Service, you will support children and young people with a wide range of additional needs, including complex disabilities and medical conditions.

In this rewarding frontline role, you will:

1. Build strong, trusting relationships with children and their families
2. Complete child-centred, strengths-based assessments
3. Develop and review care and support plans that reflect each child’s voice and individual needs
4. Work collaboratively with health, education, and multi-agency partners
5. Support families to navigate challenges, access services, and build resilience
6. Advocate for children to ensure they receive the right support at the right time

This is a role where your work has a real, visible impact, helping children to live safer, fuller, and more meaningful lives.

Our Approach

We are implementing the Families First Partnership Programme, bringing together locality-based family help teams, safeguarding teams, and Multi-Agency Child Protection Teams (MACPT).

Our practice is rooted in trauma-informed and systemic approaches, ensuring holistic and empathetic support for families. Social workers benefit from bespoke training, including:

7. Trauma-informed practice
8. Motivational interviewing
9. Continuous professional development opportunities

Who We’re Looking For

We’re looking for Social Workers who are:

10. Qualified and registered with Social Work England

12. Confident in having honest, compassionate, and respectful conversations
13. Able to manage a complex caseload and work collaboratively across services
14. Reflective, resilient, and emotionally intelligent

Most importantly, we want people who genuinely care — who see the child beyond the diagnosis, and who are patient, curious, and committed to making a difference.

Why Work With Us?

We recognise that this is demanding work, so we invest in supporting our staff as much as our families.

You’ll benefit from:

15. Regular, meaningful supervision
16. Manageable caseloads
17. A strong learning culture with access to specialist disability training
18. A supportive, team-focused environment
19. Career development and progression opportunities
20. Generous annual leave plus flexi leave (up to days)
21. Flexible and remote working options
22. Modern working environments with free parking
