Severn Trent has invested in transforming the Strongford wastewater treatment plant into a Net Zero Hub, aiming for net-zero carbon emissions.
This initiative demonstrates our commitment to sustainability and industry leadership in environmental practices, including advanced greenhouse gas monitoring and technological innovation.
Our Waste Water Recycling team offers an exciting opportunity to join as a Mechanical Maintenance Technician at the Net Zero Hub, Strongford sewage treatment works.
This role involves working with various equipment, assets, and new technologies, including AI, providing opportunities to learn and develop new skills outside your usual activities.
You will ensure our treatment processes operate efficiently to protect our rivers. Responsibilities include:
* Maintaining mechanical assets proactively and reactively.
* Working with pumps, chemical dosing, gearboxes, high-pressure systems, gas systems, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, valves, motors, generators, drive belts, conveyors, scrapers.
* Fabrication, lubrication, and welding activities.
* Improving mechanical assets continuously.
* Completing lifting operations safely per LOLER regulations.
* Fault finding and diagnostics.
* Interpreting and updating mechanical drawings.
* Supporting the design and build of new processes.
* Owning site mechanical performance.
* Monitoring treatment processes via SCADA and responding to alarms.
* Reviewing asset health and availability.
* Updating relevant training, including mechanical and maintenance skills.
* Providing cover and expertise at Stoke-On-Trent sewage works and pumping stations.
You will be based at Strongford sewage treatment works, with a vehicle, laptop, safety clothing, and tools provided.
Core working hours are Monday to Friday, with participation in a standby rota.

What You’ll Bring to the Role
Experience and the following qualifications:
* A full UK driving license.
* Knowledge of process control systems and industrial mechanical standards.
* IT system experience.
* Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills.
* Basic instrumentation skills are desirable but not essential, with opportunities to upskill.
