Avencia are partnered with a leading insurer and Fortune 500 company, who are looking to recruit an Assistant Underwriter in their Leeds-based Renewal Connect team.
The opportunity
This opportunity is based within the renewals department as part of a smaller renewals team, dealing with a wide variety of Professional and Management Risks and Charity policies. You'll work closely with other departments to build and maintain relationships internally and externally, delivering an exceptional service to our brokers.
The role of the Assistant Underwriter is to provide an excellent underwriting service for brokers across the UK. You'll develop and maintain strong relationships, monitor and analyse broker activity to identify success and areas for improvement, and provide proactive feedback to the team manager. You'll also take responsibility for renewals and mid-term queries, ensuring you remain visible and accessible to our brokers.
Key accountabilities
Provide and maintain a high level of underwriting, demonstrating thorough knowledge of guidelines and authority levels to achieve defined objectives
Underwrite risks in line with your personal level of authority
Deliver excellent service to brokers, prioritising renewals, mid-term adjustments and referrals whether via the e-trading platform, Acturis, or by email/phone, ensuring all deadlines are met
Handle incoming calls promptly and professionally
Diarise and follow up renewals with brokers to secure and retain business
Review broker activity, highlighting product benefits and negotiating terms to encourage engagement
Analyse broker performance and report findings to the team manager
Manage renewal cases, collaborating with brokers to secure renewals and upsell/cross-sell additional cover
Build and maintain excellent working relationships with the technical teams in Leeds and the wider business
Support the team and business with ad hoc projectsSkills & experience
Proven, relevant insurance experience and demonstrable technical skills
Background in our classes of business (desirable but not essential)
Excellent written, verbal, and numerical skills
High level of accuracy and attention to detail
Strong IT skills, including MS Office
Willingness to study for CII qualifications - fully funded and supported by the company
