Job Description
This role offers the opportunity to play a key part in managing the Regional Research Delivery Network budget, ensuring funding is delivered efficiently to support high-quality health and care studies. As Finance Officer, you’ll help shape streamlined financial systems, work closely with diverse stakeholders, and contribute directly to research that benefits patients and communities across the region.
More detail about the role
The Finance Officer supports the financial management of the NIHR Regional Research Delivery Network (RRDN), overseeing the dissemination, monitoring and accounting of approximately £18M in annual research delivery funding. Reporting to the Finance Manager, the role ensures transparent, compliant and efficient use of funds in line with Host Organisation Standing Financial Instructions and national NIHR/DHSC guidance.
Key responsibilities include managing subcontracting and invoice processes, administering Excess Treatment Cost (ETC) payments, coordinating budget allocations, and maintaining robust audit trails. The Finance Officer will lead day-to-day budget coordination, maintain financial reporting to the RDN Coordinating Centre, and support funding calls, financial forecasting and annual planning.
The role involves regular engagement with internal teams (finance, admin, study support, analytics) and external stakeholders (including research delivery organisations in hospital settings and primary care, and RDN Coordinating Centre finance teams). It requires translating complex financial data for non-finance audiences, supporting audits, responding to funding queries, and ensuring accurate and timely financial information is shared with all recipients of RDN funding.
The Finance Officer will contribute to developing and improving financial systems, ensuring compliance, supporting strategic funding processes, and maintaining accurate financial records and reports. Strong IT skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work with frequent interruptions and tight deadlines are essential. Occasional travel within the region will be required.
Working Pattern: Full time, 37.5 hours per week
Interview Date: To be confirmed
