Who We Are
Network Rail High Speed Ltd. (NRHS) is responsible for operating and maintaining the UK's only international high-speed railway, High Speed (HS1).
The 109km HS1 infrastructure consists of a diverse range of railway assets such as the track, signalling, overhead line, lineside buildings, depots, viaducts and long tunnels. NRHS is also responsible for operating and maintaining three international stations; St Pancras, Ebbsfleet and Stratford International.
As a wholly owned subsidiary of Network Rail Infrastructure Ltd, NRHS is privately financed under an agreement with our client ‘HS1 Ltd', undertaking a diverse range of activities from railway infrastructure maintenance and operations - through to station facilities management and retail on behalf of our client.

Technician – Overhead Catenary Systems (OCS)

Shift Pattern: Days, Nights & Weekends (Safety-Critical Role)
We're looking for a practical, safety‑driven OCS Technician with a passion for engineering, problem‑solving and teamwork. In this frontline role, you'll keep our Overhead Line Equipment (OLE) operating safely, reliably, and efficiently — ensuring trains across the network stay powered and moving.
About The Role (External)
Your Impact
As an OCS Technician, you'll work directly with a Team Leader and a specialist maintenance team to keep critical railway power systems in top condition. You'll carry out inspections, renewals, maintenance, diagnostics and faulting — often in challenging environments and always to the highest safety and engineering standards.
No two shifts are the same. Every day brings new challenges, new technology, and opportunities to develop your skills.
Stepping Up When Needed
There will be times when you'll take charge and act as Team Leader. This means:
Setting up and maintaining safe work arrangements
Checking and controlling the quality of work
Ensuring staff have the correct competencies
Ensuring all tools, plant, vehicles and equipment are fit for use
This is a key operational role that requires confidence, resilience and the ability to make sound decisions — day, night and in all weathers.
What You'll need Technical Background in ONE of the following:
Electrical & Electronic Engineering
Mechanical Engineering / Mechanical Maintenance
HVAC / Air Conditioning Systems
Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) Systems
Core Capabilities
A solid understanding of electrical principles
A willingness to learn and build new technical skills
Commitment to safe working practices
Strong communication, teamwork and organisational skills
Full UK driving licence
Bonus Skills (Not Essential, But Great to Have!)
* Knowledge of the railway industry
* Experience mentoring or developing team members
* Ability to share lessons learned and promote continuous improvement
* Understanding of operational railway environments
