Job Summary
An experienced Legal Professional is required to join a Local Authority Legal Services team on a temporary basis to provide specialist legal advice and representation. The role will focus on areas relating to safeguarding family support and wider public sector governance. This is a full-time assignment based on-site ideal for an individual confident in delivering high-quality legal work within a fast-paced public sector environment.
Key Duties / Accountabilities
* Provide high-quality legal advice, representation and support to client departments particularly in the area of safeguarding and family law.
* Represent the authority in court proceedings and tribunals including case preparation and advocacy as required.
* Manage a caseload of complex and sensitive legal matters independently ensuring deadlines are met and risks are mitigated.
* Draft and review legal documents including court applications, contracts and formal correspondence.
* Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant legislation, case law and best practice.
* Work collaboratively with other legal professionals and stakeholders within the council and externally.
* Ensure compliance with professional standards, council policies and procedures.
Skills / Experience
* Minimum 2 years experience in public sector legal work ideally in safeguarding, family law or child protection.
* Demonstrable experience of handling complex legal caseloads with minimal supervision.
* Strong knowledge of relevant legislation such as the Children Act 1989 / 2004 Care Act 2014 and related case law.
* Excellent communication, drafting and negotiation skills.
* Proven ability to manage competing priorities and work under pressure.
* Familiarity with court processes, advocacy and case management systems in the public sector.
