An exciting opportunity has arisen at Oaklands for a experienced and student-focused Lecturer in Sport at Oaklands College, delivering high-quality teaching across a range of sport, fitness, and sport coaching programmes. Committed to developing learners’ practical skills, academic understanding, and employability, the lecturer uses engaging, inclusive teaching strategies aligned with industry standards. Strong emphasis is placed on learner progress, assessment for learning, and embedding English, maths, and professional behaviours. Actively contributes to curriculum development, enrichment activities, and links with employers to enhance real‑world learning opportunities. Passionate about supporting student success, wellbeing, and progression into higher education, apprenticeships, or employment within the sport and leisure sector.

Contribute to curriculum development that is innovative, inclusive and responsive to change.

Your Day to Day impact.

* Plan, deliver, and evaluate high‑quality teaching across Sport and related programmes (e.g. Sport, Fitness, Sports Coaching, Sport Science), ensuring lessons meet awarding body requirements.

* Use a variety of inclusive teaching strategies to engage learners of differing abilities and backgrounds.

* Design and mark assessments accurately and on time, providing clear, formative and summative feedback.

* Achievement and retention targets met or exceeded

* Timely assessment and feedback in line with college policy (e.g. 100% on-time marking)

* Core objective: Ensure learners achieve qualifications and develop industry‑relevant knowledge and skills.

* Track learner progress through effective target‑setting, reviews, and intervention strategies.

* Act as a tutor/personal tutor, supporting attendance, behaviour, wellbeing, and progression.

* Support learners to progress into employment, apprenticeships, higher education, or related pathways.

* Attendance above agreed college benchmarks

* Positive learner destination data

* Alignment with college goals: Raising achievement, progression, and learner success.

Curriculum Development and Quality Assurance

* Contribute to the development, review, and evaluation of sport curricula to ensure relevance and compliance.

* Ensure schemes of work and lesson plans reflect current industry practice and employer needs.

* Participate in internal verification, standardisation, and inspection activities (e.g. Ofsted readiness).

* Measurable outputs:

* Curriculum documentation completed to deadlines

* Positive quality review outcomes

Industry Engagement and Enrichment

* Develop and maintain links with local employers, sports organisations, and partners.

* Organise and support enrichment activities such as trips, guest speakers, work experience, and competitions.

* Embed employability skills, professional behaviours, and health & safety awareness.

* Alignment with college goals: Strengthening employer engagement and real‑world learning.

Safeguarding, Health, Safety and Professional Practice

* Uphold safeguarding, Prevent, and health & safety procedures at all times, particularly in practical sport settings.

* Act as a professional role model, demonstrating high standards of conduct, punctuality, and communication.

* Complete mandatory training and engage in continuous professional development (CPD).

* Measurable outputs:

* Full compliance with safeguarding and H&S requirements

* CPD targets met annually

Teamwork, Communication and College Contribution

* Work collaboratively with curriculum teams, support services, and managers to support learner success.

* Attend meetings, training, and college events as required.

* Contribute to open days, enrolment, induction, and marketing activities.

* Scope of responsibility:

* Typically responsible for own teaching groups (no direct line management unless specified)

* Responsible for effective use of allocated resources and equipment within curriculum areas

Key Challenges of the Role

* Managing high workloads and tight assessment deadlines during peak academic periods.

* Supporting learners with diverse needs, barriers, and varying levels of motivation.

* Adapting to curriculum changes, awarding body updates, and inspection requirements.

* Balancing practical delivery with compliance, administration, and quality standards in a fast‑paced FE environment.

Is This You?

Qualifications and Experience

* Experience delivering sport-related content to learners aged 16–19 and/or adult learners in an FE or training environment.

* Evidence of planning and delivering lessons that meet awarding body requirements.

* Experience of assessing learner work and providing written and verbal feedback that supports progress.

* Ability to monitor learner performance using tracking systems and respond with timely interventions.

Desirable

* Experience teaching across multiple Sport units/programmes (L1-L3).

* Experience supporting learners to achieve positive progression outcomes (HE, employment, apprenticeships).

* Familiarity with Ofsted EIF expectations and quality assurance processes.

Teaching and Learning

* Ability to design and deliver engaging, activity-based lessons that promote language acquisition and learner confidence

* Skilled in differentiating instruction to meet varied learner levels, backgrounds, and learning styles.

* Competent in assessing learner progress and providing constructive feedback to support achievement.

* Passionate about celebrating individual learner journeys and achievements, fostering a culture of inclusion and success.

Collaboration and Innovation

* Strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate effectively with other departments to support cross-curricular initiatives

* Ability to identify and source relevant work experience opportunities that enhance learner employability and integration.

* Forward-thinking approach to curriculum development, embracing innovation and change.

* Ability to positively promote success stories, internally and externally using a wide variety of resources (social media, newsletters, community events, employer engagement)
