Job overview

Lambeth inpatient services are seeking an experienced, assertive and confident Band 6 to work in a split role across Eden male intensive care two days per week and Luther King male acute three days. You will be part of a small team of occupational therapists working in collaboration with colleagues from sports and exercise, physiotherapy, arts psychotherapy and psychology. We also work closely with our community Alliance Partners in Thames Reach IPS, Vocation Matters and Mosaic Clubhouse.

You will be joining us a time of change for the delivery of occupational therapy in the Borough with an increasing emphasis upon social inclusion and employment.

Occupational therapy is a valued component of the multi-disciplinary offer and you will have protected CPD time and the opportunity to take on a Leadership role in an area of clinical interest within the team. Lambeth Occupational therapists are committed to student placements throughout the year and there is an expectation that this will be an important part of the role also.

Main duties of the job

To offer occupationally focused group and 1-1 interventions to service users on Eden and Luther King wards. These should be evidence based and linked to the occupational domains of self care, productivity and leisure. All interventions should be underpinned with recovery focused ideals and driven by support for safe and timely discharge back to the community.

The postholder will be required to comply with the College of Occupational Therapists' Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct. The postholder will be expected to participate in the development of the service overall and work flexibly with colleagues according to the wider needs of the service.


Working for our organisation

This site has seven wards currently based at Landor Road. It is expected that the wards will be moving to a new building based at the Maudsley hospital site later in the year.


Detailed job description and main responsibilities

* Undertake appropriate occupational therapy assessments for clients who are referred.
* Take a lead on promoting service user employment on the wards
* Undertake home visits and visits to community resources within the context of a daily living assessment of need or to introduce clients to services providing self identified areas of interest.
* Oversee the work of occupational therapy students on the ward
* Support volunteers and peer workers on the wards
* Ensure that interventions are evidence based and outcome measured.
* Take a lead in an area of clinical interest, eg QI project, research etc

* Registered Occupational Therapist


Desirable criteria

* Membership of BAOT and/or special interest group


Experience

* Post graduate clinical experience working in mental health settings
* Experience of collaborative working with service users and supporters
* Experience of working in challenging settings.

* Experience of working in acute settings


Knowledge and skills


Essential criteria

* A comprehensive understanding of the effects of mental illness upon function.
* Knowledge and understanding of Adult Safeguarding and the Mental Capacity Act
* Demonstrate how to evaluate therapeutic interventions and treatment planning in collaboration with service users
* Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of IPS and employment in relation to recovery and wellbeing
* Demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills
* Knowledge and understanding of risk assessment and management in practice

* Experience of working in intensive care
