Job Summary

An opportunity has arisen to join a highly regarded and established team based at Hinchingbrooke Hospital, at a time of growth and change.

We will recruit an enthusiastic and motivated Clinical Nurse Specialist or Social Worker to join our Psychiatric Liaison Team.

We are particularly keen to hear from applicants with experience of working across age ranges.

Please note for this role you will be required to travel independently around the county meeting strict time deadlines.

Responsibilities

1. To conduct biopsychosocial and risk assessments for individuals presenting in the Emergency Department with mental health problems and admitted to inpatient wards at Hinchingbrooke Hospital.
2. Provide a high level of clinical expertise in the assertive management, assessment and care of patients presenting with mental health problems.
3. Ensure that care is based on the assessment of care needs and includes a thorough risk assessment and risk management plan.
4. Ensure good communication with other members of the Liaison Psychiatry Service as well as general hospital staff about changes in care plans.
5. To liaise with other agencies caring for patients, including community mental health teams and GPs to provide clear plans for all patients, particularly frequent attending or high‑risk patients.
6. Utilise recent research findings in the advancement of best practice and in the delivery of an evidence‑based service.
7. Engage in Liaison Psychiatry Service educational and training events to fulfil requirements of clinical governance.
8. To organise and provide training in psychiatry, including mental health awareness.
9. To provide support and expert advice to colleagues involved in the care of patients with mental health problems and to develop systems to ensure that this support is available in a range of ways.
10. Ensure that the requirements of the Mental Health Act 1983 and other statutory regulations are observed and implemented within a medical setting.


Person Specification

Education/Qualifications – Essential:

* Registered Mental Health Nurse or equivalent professional registration including Social Work
* Evidence of relevant post‑registration training and development

Education/Qualifications – Desirable:

* Independent and supplementary Prescriber
* Recognised training qualification
* Mentor and mentorship training

Experience – Essential:

* Community and in‑patient experience in mental health services
* Considerable experience in the assessment and management of clinical risk
* Experience in the planning and delivery of training and practice developments to staff
* Experience of effective collaborative working
* Evidence of experience in service evaluation and improvements

Experience – Desirable:

* Clinical audits and research
* Experience of working in Liaison Psychiatry

Skills & Abilities – Essential:

* Able to demonstrate commitment to high quality care and service provision
* Competent IT skills including Word, Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint
* Ability to prioritise workload effectively, meeting expected deadlines
* Excellent analytical and decision‑making skills
* Ability to manage change and deal with conflict/stressful situations

Knowledge & Understanding – Essential:

* Advanced understanding of the mental health needs of adults
* Specialist knowledge of person‑centred care and its application
* Specialist knowledge of psycho‑social interventions and their appropriate use
* Up-to‑date knowledge of appropriate assessment scales
* Good knowledge of the policies and guidelines pertinent to the planning and delivery of care to adults with mental health needs

Knowledge & Understanding – Desirable:

* Knowledge of practical application and use of psychological therapies

Physical Requirements – Essential:

* Ability to foster good inter‑agency working

Physical Requirements – Desirable:

* Ability to travel independently
