Job Role: SEMH Teaching Assistant

Salary: £20,000 – £22,000 per annum
The School & Role
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming and inclusive secondary school in West Bromwich. This is a permanent, full-time position, starting 3rd November 2025.
The school provides an alternative provision for students aged 11–18 with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, including those new to the UK or who thrive in smaller, nurturing learning environments. The school celebrates diversity, individuality, and inclusion, offering a tailored curriculum that supports every student’s academic, emotional, and social development.
Key Responsibilities
As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will:
1. Support students with their learning, emotional wellbeing, and social development.
2. Deliver one-to-one and small group interventions tailored to individual needs.
3. Assist teachers in planning and delivering engaging, inclusive lessons.
4. Help set up learning activities and adapt materials or environments to meet pupil needs.
5. Use positive behaviour strategies to manage classroom dynamics effectively.
Requirements
6. Experience supporting students with SEMH or behavioural needs.
7. Strong understanding of behaviour management strategies.
8. Minimum GCSE Grade C (or equivalent) in English and Maths.
9. A recognised Teaching Assistant qualification (or willingness to work towards one).
10. Empathetic, patient, and adaptable with excellent communication skills.
