Laleham Gap is a Communication and Interaction Special School. We have pupils aged from 4 to 18 years of age. Most of our pupils have a diagnosis of Autism. All pupils have an EHCP. Most pupils will achieve some GCSEs or equivalent at age 16. Laleham Gap is a new, high quality and well-resourced environment and the opportunity to work with an established, experienced and highly motivated team.

Job Description: Teacher of Science

Pay Scale:MPS/UPS + SEN Allowance
Responsible to: Headteacher
Purpose of the Job:
To demonstrate knowledge and understanding of how pupils learn and how this is supported by promoting good or better teaching and learning for all pupils.
To take responsibility for the education and welfare of children in accordance with the current School Teachers Pay and Conditions document, having due regard to the requirements of the National Curriculum, school policies and the Teachers Standards.
Key duties and responsibilities:
1. To take responsibility for planning and implementing appropriate work programmes for children. To provide extra-curricular activities in partnership with other teachers within the school and external providers. Implement a curriculum that is highly tailored to meet the diverse needs of pupils
2. To co-produce planned outcomes for pupils regarding EHCP processes. Collaborate with the school’s Therapy teams, families and associated external agencies.
3. To have the highest expectations of each pupil and ensure a close match between the learning experiences offered, and the individual needs of the children.
4. To make appropriate educational provision for all children.
5. To conduct Annual Reviews of Education, Health and Care Plans and in-year reviews of progression plans for a class of pupils.
6. To provide children with opportunities to manage their own learning and become independent learners.
7. To create a secure, safe, happy and stimulating learning environment, maintaining the highest standards of organisation and classroom management.
8. To develop each child’s self-esteem and establish relationships which are based on mutual respect.
9. To arrange for resources, equipment and materials to be available in such a way that they are properly cared for, easily accessible and will encourage the children to become more responsible for their own learning.
10. To work closely with colleagues to undertake medium and short-term planning and the implementation of schemes of work.
11. To assess children’s progress, maintain records and provide written reports to parents and carers in accordance with school policies.
12. To communicate and consult with parents and carers and with outside agencies, as necessary, about children’s progress and attainment.
13. To ensure that the school’s aims and objectives regarding the curriculum, equal opportunities are consistently promoted in everyday classroom organisation and practice.
14. To take up the opportunity for continuous professional development through self-directed reading, courses and in-service training.
15. To perform the duties of a form/class teacher as required. Reading/research used to inform teaching and learning. Lunchtime/break support as required, leading clubs, providing proactive support for pupils and their families.
16. To undertake any other reasonable and relevant duties in accordance with the changing needs of the school.
17. To carry out other relevant duties as directed by the Senior Leadership Team.
