This is a fantastic opportunity for applicants to train as a Level 2 Teaching Assistant Apprentice in Early Years. Applicants with greater experience could be considered for a start on a Level 3 pathway. The course lasts 14 months and could lead to:
* Teaching Assistant
* Qualified Teacher Status
Who is suitable for an apprenticeship?
Employers are particularly interested in applicants who have a keen interest in providing excellent support within a school environment and working as part of a team. You should demonstrate excellent literacy, numeracy, and ICT skills. Potential candidates are expected to have achieved GCSE A-C or 9-5 in English, maths, and a science subject.
Will I get paid as an apprentice?
Yes, your employer will pay you at least £7.55 per hour (from April 2025) for at least 30 hours per week (including college days) for 44.8 weeks of the year. They must also allow you to take at least 28 days of annual leave, including bank holidays, and pay you for it.
How is the Apprenticeship Assessed?
Your assessor will visit you in the workplace to assess your progress, and you will attend college for one day per week. You will develop your skills and knowledge both on and off the job, receiving regular supervision and mentoring from your employer.
Potential Career Progression
This apprenticeship provides the knowledge, understanding, and professional skills applicable in your current or future career within education. Upon completion, you can progress into Senior Teaching Assistant roles or further your studies towards a Foundation Degree, BA Hons, and eventually Qualified Teacher Status, through partnerships with Chelmsford College, Canterbury Christ Church University, and Anglia Ruskin University. Note: Your school is not obligated to continue employment after the apprenticeship.
Costs
There are no costs to the apprentice for completing this program. Costs may be incurred if you pursue further qualifications such as a foundation degree, BA Hons, or QTS, which might require a small student loan.
Can I complete this qualification without being an apprentice?
Yes, for those aged 19+, this can be done in the workplace without college day release. A work-based tutor will visit every 3-5 weeks to assign coursework and observe your work. The course costs £1,800 with at least 10 hours of work or voluntary service per week.
All apprentices must have employment to participate. For assistance with employment, contact David Cornwell at 01245 293119 or cornwelld@chelmsford.ac.uk.
