About the Role
Reporting to the Head of Business Unit, the Planning & Control Lead plays a pivotal role within Operations, orchestrating the activities of the Business Unit to ensure products are manufactured and delivered on time to customer requirements.
This includes managing the internal supply of forgings to the Machining BU, ensuring accurate capacity planning, maintaining disciplined WIP control and supporting strategic SIOP analysis.
You will create and maintain 13‑week time‑phased manufacturing plans in EFACS, control short‑term production schedules and respond dynamically to customer, material or operational changes.
This role supports the alignment of capacity, resources and demand and ensures the effective integration of new products into the manufacturing workflow through NPI.
As a condition of employment successful candidates are required to satisfy ITAR (International Traffic in Arms Regulations) compliance and must fulfil the following before commencing this role”
i Currently hold the legal Right to Work in the UK

Responsibilities
Core Responsibilities
Create viable 13‑week time‑phased manufacturing plans in EFACS to meet customer order requirements
Control the 4‑week production and sales plan including output, material readiness, tooling availability and press utilisation
Maintain manufacturing plans reflecting customer changes, material constraints and operational deviations
Build and maintain MPS schedules to smooth demand and optimise capacity usage
Support SIOP activity through analysis of load versus capacity across headcount, machinery, materials and methods
Provide capacity profiles that highlight overloads or under‑utilisation for operational mitigation
Produce monthly and quarterly sales forecasts from EFACS
Integrate new products into schedules to support NPI activities
Maintain disciplined WIP management including release, sequencing, progress of slow‑moving works orders and closure of scrapped or obsolete orders
Manage subcontract products including requisitioning and supplier delivery performance
Safety Responsibilities
Comply with EHS and legislative standards
Adhere to PPE and safety policies
Support occupational health requirements
Promote safe working practices across the BU
Participate in risk assessments and near‑miss reduction initiatives
Quality Responsibilities
Work in alignment with ISO9001 procedures
Maintain accurate planning data within EFACS to support quality compliance
Support reduction of rework, scrap and deviation through effective scheduling
Delivery Responsibilities
Ensure output plans align with customer delivery schedules
Coordinate resource, tooling and material availability to protect on‑time delivery
Improve schedule adherence to enhance customer satisfaction
Cost Responsibilities
Support waste reduction through accurate planning and WIP control
Improve productivity through balanced capacity and efficient scheduling
Provide accurate forecasts to support business financial planning
People Responsibilities
Communicate clearly and effectively at all organisational levels
Influence cross‑functional stakeholders to drive best‑practice planning behaviours
Build collaborative relationships across Operations, Engineering, Quality and other key functions
Business Responsibilities
Act as an ambassador for Mettis
Role model the company’s Vision, Mission and Values
Qualifications
Degree, BTEC or relevant further education qualification
Understanding of MRP theory, master production scheduling and capacity planning
Experience using ERP systems such as EFACS to create and maintain manufacturing plans
Experience supporting new product introduction processes
Familiarity with ISO9001 business systems and procedural compliance
Logical and analytical approach to problem solving with confidence to lead others in resolution activities
Required Skills
High competency in MRP logic, scheduling and load versus capacity analysis
Effective communication capability with the ability to explain complex issues clearly
Ability to build constructive working relationships across business functions
Calm and assured approach to resolving challenging or conflicting planning situations
Analytical mindset with excellent attention to detail
Proficient IT capability including Excel, Word and PowerPoint
Ability to follow and promote best‑practice planning disciplines and continuous improvement
Job Type: Full‑time, Permanent
Location: Redditch, Worcestershire (on site, 5 days: M-T 07:30 – 16:30 & F 07:30 – 12:30)
