Role: Teaching Assistant

Working hours: 30 hours per week, 9:00–15:00, Monday to Friday (Term Time Only)

We are looking to recruit for an outstanding team member to join our skilled team of teaching assistants. Our teaching assistants are the heart of our school, performing the role of key adult to a number of our students and being the key contact for their families. We work in small supportive teams, with one of the best pay scales in the country for TA work. We pride ourselves on our culture of kindness and our student-centred ethos, with our students benefiting from an extensive personal development curriculum as well as a robust package of accredited qualifications. A typical day might include meeting and greeting students, supporting breakfast club, running tutorial, supporting academic lessons and then supporting either vocational learning or outdoor education. We are very keen to grow our own and support people in developing in the career pathway they wish to follow.
Responsibilities
* Provide safeguarding and emotional wellbeing support for young people, reporting problems to the teacher as required.
* Assist teachers in raising pupil attainment by providing quality experiences aligned to the curriculum and any additional needs.
* Support planning, preparation and adaptation of learning materials; assist in creating visual displays; differentiate learning to meet allocated pupils’ needs.
* Assess, record and report on development and attainment in line with school processes; monitor pupil responses and escalate issues to the teacher/personal tutor.
* Support pupils within the centre and during educational and out-of-school activities; work with individuals or small groups.
* Adhere to safeguarding, pastoral care, behaviour management, health & safety and pupil welfare policies.
* Collaborate with school and residential colleagues, parents/carers and other professionals as appropriate.
* Support the school’s outdoor education provision, including animal care, wellbeing and Duke of Edinburgh activities.
Qualifications and Professional Skills
* Working knowledge of child well-being, learning and developmental pathways; literacy, numeracy and personal, social and health education; IT literate.
* Understanding of the ethos, values and policies of Spark of Genius (where applicable) and the role of an Education Assistant.
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work with individuals and groups; professional and cooperative attitude.
* Commitment to safeguarding, equal opportunities and ongoing professional development; willingness to engage in restorative approaches where required.
* Capable of using initiative, working independently as required, and contributing to school life and wider community.
Other Requirements
* Compliance with Health and Safety requirements and company policies; awareness of Fire, Health and Safety procedures and reporting unsafe practices.
* May be required to undertake other duties commensurate with the level of responsibility; adhere to safeguarding and equal opportunities requirements at all times.
