As Payroll Manager, you will lead and continuously enhance UK payroll operations, taking full ownership of the end-to-end payroll lifecycle to ensure accurate, compliant, and timely delivery across all processes. Leveraging your technical expertise and leadership capability, you will drive process optimisation, support system excellence and act as a trusted subject matter expert to HR and Finance stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities
1. Compliance & Governance: Ensure adherence to all statutory requirements, UK tax regulations, Auto Enrolment obligations, and HMRC deadlines.
2. Team Leadership & Development: Lead, coach, and develop Payroll Specialists, maintaining a high-performance culture and supporting professional growth.
3. Systems Ownership: Act as Key User for SAP HR Payroll, including Time & Attendance and Employee Self-Service (ESS), ensuring system optimisation and accuracy.
4. Data Management & Reporting: Maintain payroll and pension records, delivering accurate reporting, analysis, and insights to HR and Finance.
5. Payroll Accounting & Benefits: Oversee pension administration, payroll-related HR activities, and benefits processing, including payrolled benefits.
6. HMRC & Year-End Processes: Manage P11Ds, PAYE Settlement Agreements (PSA), and all required submissions in line with regulatory deadlines.
7. Quality Assurance: Conduct regular payroll audits and reconciliations, ensuring accuracy and continuous improvement.
8. Stakeholder Collaboration: Build strong relationships with HR, Finance, and wider business functions to ensure seamless payroll operations.
9. Process Improvement: Identify and implement opportunities to streamline processes, improve efficiency, and leverage automation.
Essential
10. Proven experience managing end-to-end payrolls at a senior level
11. In-depth knowledge of UK payroll legislation, tax, and compliance requirements
12. Experience with pension administration and Auto Enrolment
13. Strong working knowledge of HMRC processes, including P11D and PSA
14. Experience with payroll systems (SAP HR Payroll advantageous)
15. Advanced numerical, analytical, and problem-solving abilities
16. High level of accuracy and attention to detail
17. Proven ability to lead or supervise a team
18. Strong IT skills, including advanced Microsoft Excel and reporting tools
19. Ability to work independently, prioritise effectively, and meet deadlines

20. Exposure to process improvement initiatives or payroll transformation
