Overview

JOB PURPOSE: To work under supervision as a professional member of a team providing quality Early Years Education and Childcare in an environment, which is stimulating, open ended and challenging. To promote the physical, social, emotional and cognitive development of each individual child.


Dimensions

The work involves the Education and Care of children from four months to five years. The children are divided into five separate groups according to age and development. To work within the designated unit and develop collaborative and co-operative working practices. The Team Co-ordinator will provide day-to-day support.


Duties and Responsibilities

1. To have responsibility under the guidelines of the Team Co-ordinator for the daily organisation and management of the children within the designated area, positively promoting and supporting their behaviour and learning.
2. To develop, maintain and support good staff relations within your individual team and throughout the nursery as a whole.
3. To create a happy, caring and stimulating environment. To be sensitive to the child’s emotional, social, mental health and wellbeing, physical and intellectual needs, treating each child as an individual, respecting differing cultures and religious backgrounds.
4. To operate, prepare and set out in an appropriate way, in co-operation with other staff, programmes of work and activities relating to Reggio Emilia approach and child-led learning.
5. To share and at times take sole responsibilities for groups of children working in areas inside or outside the nursery, where a variety of activities are available. Facilitating and enabling children by providing appropriate levels of support and interaction as a play partner.
6. To observe, monitor and assess individual children and keep written records in accordance with the EYFS Framework. To prepare and make available to the Team Co-ordinator and parents those records as part of the development and review process. To organise and attend regular review meetings with parents.
7. To establish and develop a good relationship with parents and carers encouraging dialogue, co-operation and partnership. To share with parents and carer’s information about their child, maintaining confidentiality.
8. To administer first aid at an appropriate level and be responsible for reporting details of accidents to the parent and management as required. To care for sick children and accompany to hospital in the absence of a parent or carer, if necessary.
9. To work with parents of children with additional needs in order to support and achieve their full inclusion into the nursery. To liaise and develop professional contacts and to develop co-working practices with colleagues from other agencies who relate to the establishment e.g. health visitor, speech therapists, by exchanging information and participating in programmes under the guidance of the SENCO. To be an integral part of the Child Protection and Safeguarding Systems and Procedures, including participation in any relevant meetings and if appropriate, giving evidence at court hearings.
10. To attend and participate in meetings and social functions, i.e. Summer Fare, as required by the Team Co-ordinator, Manager and Executive Committee, sharing information with colleagues and willingness to give and accept support.
11. To constantly re-appraise performance and to participate in training courses. To keep informed of current Early Years and Childcare legislation and practices.
12. To participate in the training programme for Early Years students and other trainees on placement and to supervise and assess their progress.
13. To maintain and service resources and equipment used for play and social activities, e.g. books, dressing-up clothes, furnishings - cushions, jig-saws etc., in conjunction with other staff.
14. To operate high standards of hygiene at all times and to ensure that appropriate standards of health and safety are maintained.
15. To participate in reviews of the organisation, it’s policies and philosophy, ensuring the Company’s Confidentiality Policy is adhered to at all times.


Additional Information

Claremont Nursery Co-operative is run as a Neighbourhood Co-operative registered as a Mutual Trading Association under the Financial Conduct Authority, Co-operative and Community Benefit Societies Act 2014 and under the Mutual Benefit FCA register. It is a requirement of registration that all staff and parent / carers are members of the Co-operative. Staff are expected to attend the four quarterly Open Meetings of the Co-operative, which are normally held in the evening.

The hours are 37.5 hrs per week. The Nursery is open from 08.30 until 17.30 hours and a rota shift system is in operation.
