What Exergy3 does:
Exergy3 is a dynamic and forward-thinking company committed to delivering cost effective decarbonisation of industrial processes through exceptional high-temperature thermal energy storage solutions.
We’re at a pivotal stage in our evolution, delivering our first pilot projects, growing our team, and commercialising our technology.
What we want to achieve:
Our vision can be summarised in one sentence: Reliable, quick and affordable decarbonisation for every process.
More than 50% of global CO2 emissions are caused by processes that so far have proven difficult, time-consuming and expensive to decarbonise. Our radical solution is more cost effective, faster and easier to implement than the alternatives.
The role:
We’re looking for an experienced technical director to join our small, agile, Edinburgh-based team and take the lead on the delivery of our pilot system, ensuring certification and compliance with national and international standards and regulations, while in parallel driving product improvements in both cost and technology.
What you will do:
As Technical Director and responsible engineer you will lead our technical team and work closely with the CSO, CCO, CEO and the board.
We expect you to competently manage the following aspects of the business:
· Lead the design, certification, and delivery of Exergy3’s high-temperature storage systems through TRL9, including cost reduction and new product development.
· Ensure compliance with CE/UKCA, EMC, national and international standards and establish quality management systems (QMS) aligned with ISO 9001/14001/45001.
· Manage engineering contractors and suppliers during design, fabrication, and commissioning.
· Establish lifecycle management system including inspection, servicing, and maintenance processes for deployed systems.
· Support the CCO by providing technical input to bids, feasibility studies, and client proposals.
Mentor and grow a multidisciplinary technical team, ensuring safety, wellbeing, and professional development.
Furthermore, we expect you to contribute to the following aspects of Exergy3’s general development:
· Engagement with public funders, in particular developing excellent project propositions and co-authoring high quality funding applications.
· Engagement with private investors, specifically leading the preparation of technical materials and supporting investors in their technical due diligence.
· Lead future product demonstrations and commercial installations which entail building, installing and testing grid scale pilot systems in operational industrial processes.
· Support the engagement with partners and external stakeholders, in particular the DNOs, tradespeople required to install our system, and partner OEM’s.
Jointly with our CSO, we expect you to:
· Continuously improve our IP position and document key know-how in a shareable fashion.
· Implement our IP strategy, which includes the writing of IP disclosure forms and regular discussions with our IP attorneys.
· Teaching and training the technical staff. This includes both technology-specific and general professional development aspects.
· Collaborate with national and international research organisations.
