About the Role
As Head of Modern Foreign Languages at Downsend School, you will play a key role in shaping and leading a vibrant and ambitious MFL provision across the school. Working closely with the Executive Head and Heads of School, you will lead the strategic development of French and Spanish from Key Stage 2 to Key Stage 5, ensuring consistently high standards of teaching and learning. You will inspire pupils through engaging lessons, enriching co‑curricular opportunities, and a strong linguistic and cultural ethos, while also nurturing and developing a collaborative, high‑performing departmental team. This is an exciting opportunity to make a lasting impact on pupils’ language learning and to contribute meaningfully to the wider life of the school.
This is a permanent, full‑time role with an anticipated start date in September 2026.
Who We Are Looking For
You are an enthusiastic and dynamic language specialist with a proven track record of excellent classroom practice and leadership. You have experience teaching French and Spanish to GCSE and at least one language to A Level, and you bring the vision, energy, and organisational skills needed to lead a successful department. A confident communicator and effective role model, you enjoy working collaboratively and are committed to professional development—for yourself and others. You are passionate about languages, enrichment, and pupil wellbeing, and you thrive in a busy, high‑expectations environment where safeguarding and excellence sit at the heart of school life.
