The Financial Crime team supports the firm to effectively and efficiently manage financial crime risk and compliance. This is an assistant manager position within the team, reporting directly to the Deputy Head of Financial Crime, International. The head of the team is the GTUK MLRO.

The role is newly created to support the Deputy Head of Financial Crime, International, on activities, projects and strategic priorities as they relate to international entities, financial crime 2LOD assurance activities, and future M&A activities of the GT UK firm.

You will deliver a pivotal role in managing the legal and regulatory obligations placed on the Grant Thornton UK firm in relation to its international subsidiaries and other entities. The role has a broad remit, working as part of a UK based team with internal and external responsibilities. Internal to the UK firm you will be required to maintain policies, procedures, standards and any other resources as they relate to financial crime compliance and international entities. You will be supporting projects, periodic sample reviews, controls testing and other ad hoc activities defined through monitoring plans and escalation activities.

Externally you will support the senior members of the team on engagement activities with international firms, managing consultations, escalations and other support activities. These activities will differ with each firm and there is a need for flexibility and agile thinking, balancing the support that is provided and ensuring that the strategic goals and legal and regulatory requirements of the UK firm are met.

The role demands a proactive, self-motivated individual with strong analytical and communication skills.

A look into the role

As an Assistant Manager in the Financial Crime Team, you will:

1. Be working in a fast-paced business environment, providing critical work to support the GT UK firm responding to various to UK legal and regulatory requirements.
2. Have a varied role, carrying out testing and review procedures related to monitoring programs, and supporting management on projects and other activities.
3. Have a good working knowledge of financial crime risk and prevention, including anti-money laundering (AML), anti-bribery & corruption (AB&C), counterterrorist and proliferation financing (CFT), prevention of tax evasion and fraud prevention.
4. Support the Deputy Head of Financial Crime, International, on escalation reviews and due diligence activities related to M&A activity of the GT UK firm.
5. Support management on engagement activities with other areas of the GT UK firm business and with Grant Thornton international member firms.
6. Support on any other activities that may arise due to the outcome of your work, including support on the delivery of training, quality monitoring procedures or risk assessment related to the development of centralised functions in international firms.


Knowing you’re right for us

Joining us as Financial Crime Assistant Manager, the minimum criteria is:

7. Demonstrable experience of working in a central financial crime function, preferably for a professional services business.
8. Experience with the production of analytical reports, presentations or other formal documents.
9. Skills and knowledge in an area of financial crime risk management and/or prevention.
10. Ability to work effectively in an agile and fast-paced environment. This is a newly created team and there will be a bedding-in period where team members will be required to work across many different areas with conflicting priorities.
11. Strong stakeholder management and relationship building skills.

It would be great if you had some of the following skills, but don’t worry if you don’t tick every box, we’ll help you develop along the way.

12. Familiarity with working in a Quality & Risk function for an international firm.
13. A relevant professional qualification (e.g., ICA, CAMS) is highly desirable.
14. Experience working as part of a project team where there are many workstreams and stakeholders.
15. Technical experience in identifying, assessing and managing highly complex financial crime risks and matters as they relate to client or third-party relationships.
16. You’ll have the ability to comply with the firms legal, ethical and regulatory requirements and refresh your knowledge regularly to establish yourself as a credible senior member of the team.
17. You’ll be self-motivated and able to deliver to multiple deadlines while maintaining high levels of service to external and internal stakeholders.
