We’re partnering with a global, FTSE-listed organisation to appoint a Senior Director – Financial Control into a critical leadership position within Group Finance. This is a high-profile hire, reporting into senior leadership, with significant exposure to the Group CFO, Audit Committee and wider executive team. The business is undergoing a period of transformation, with continued investment in systems, automation and global process improvement, creating a genuinely exciting platform for an ambitious finance leader to make a lasting impact.
The role is also a succession planning role as they look to bolster the future of their finance leadership in the organization.
This role sits at the heart of Group Reporting and Control, leading a team across the UK and overseas, and taking ownership of internal and external reporting, controls and governance. Beyond the core remit, the successful individual will play a key role in driving change – from strengthening the control environment and enhancing reporting processes, to supporting major projects including M&A and systems implementation. The position demands a hands-on leader who is equally comfortable operating at both strategic and operational levels.
The organisation is seeking a credible, high-calibre individual with experience in large, complex listed environments. This is a succession-focused appointment, offering clear runway for progression, alongside significant stakeholder exposure across finance, legal, company secretarial, IT and operations. Core Stakeholders are the Group CFO and Global Controller.
Key responsibilities:
* Lead and develop a high-performing Group Financial Control and Reporting team (UK and offshore)
* Own the production of monthly management reporting and consolidated financial results for senior leadership
* Oversee external reporting, including annual report, interim results and regulatory filings (UK and US requirements)
* Drive continuous improvement of the Group’s financial controls framework, embedding a strong controls culture
* Ensure compliance with SOX and broader governance standards across the close and reporting process
* Act as a key interface with external auditors, managing audit processes and relationships
* Present financial reporting and technical accounting matters to the Group CFO and Audit Committee
* Support complex technical accounting areas, including M&A, restructuring and other strategic transactions
* Lead on transformation initiatives, including systems implementation (e.g. consolidation tools) and process automation
* Partner with a wide stakeholder group across finance, tax, treasury, investor relations, legal and operations
* Build capability within the team, including upskilling and evolving the structure where required
Required skills & experience:
* ACA (or equivalent) with strong technical accounting expertise (IFRS essential)
* Proven experience within a large, listed multinational environment
* Background in Big 4 audit and/or progressive industry experience
* Strong understanding of financial controls and governance frameworks (SOX experience beneficial)
* Demonstrated ability to operate effectively at Executive and Board/Audit Committee level
* Track record of leading and developing high-performing, geographically dispersed teams
* Experience driving change, transformation and process improvement within finance functions
* Exposure to complex accounting areas including M&A and group consolidations
* Strong systems aptitude; experience with modern finance systems and automation initiatives advantageous
* Excellent stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence across multiple functions
* Hands-on approach, with the flexibility and resilience to operate in a fast-paced, project-heavy environment
