This is a clinical research fellow (CRF) position for 24 months, supporting the recruitment of babies with moderate-severe hypoxic ischaemic encephalopathy (HIE) to a Phase I neonatal neuroprotection trial. The trial, called ACUMEN, is an international, multicentre Phase I study funded by the Medical Research Council (MRC). Primary objectives include safety profile assessment of melatonin, achieving therapeutic plasma melatonin levels, and identifying the recommended Phase 2 dose.
The study will recruit eligible babies from ten neonatal units across the UK and Australia. The position is suitable for a paediatric or neonatal trainee with an NTN number or equivalent, seeking research experience and potential for a higher degree. Supervision will be provided by Professor Nikki Robertson and Dr Ajit Mahaveer.
Applicants must have at least six months of neonatal experience at Tier 2 level and hold a full MRCPCH or equivalent. This role is not accredited for training but may suit trainees seeking Out-of-Programme experience. The post is funded for 24 months, with opportunities for research, presentations, publications, and possibly completing a higher degree.
