Job Description:
If you’re a natural people-person – someone who enjoys solving problems and learning new skills – this customer-facing role will fit perfectly around your life.
We have 2 positions available: Customer Engineer and Specialist Engineer.
As our Customer Engineer and Specialist Engineer, you’ll partner in the field and virtually with a Technical Delivery Advisor from our Manchester Mobile Centre. Your primary focus is fault finding and fixing assets located mainly in large towns, cities, stadiums, and train stations. These hubs are modern digital screen units that reinvent the iconic public phone box for our digital age!
What makes them modern and high tech? Over 900 street hubs in high-footfall areas, with calling and Wi-Fi capabilities, displaying commercial and community content, and accessible via touchscreens with local information and charging ports.
When not fixing Street Hubs, you’ll think on your feet—running solo on RAN sites to boost network performance and maintaining traditional payphone kiosks.
Responsibilities:
* Install, set up, optimize, and repair Street Assets containing pre-configured routers and switches.
* Repair payphone faults, change glass panels, and perform general kiosk maintenance.
* Carry out fixes on the RAN network, including swapping faulty boxes, cabling, health checks, and activation work, working alongside our Manchester Mobile Centre team.
* Repair phones across HM Prison Service sites, working in pairs with security clearance.
* Conduct simple Wi-Fi and mobile signal surveys, recommending installation locations and installing access points.
Additional responsibilities for Specialist Engineer:
* Perform technical tasks such as configuration, diagnostics, and cabling, requiring electrical qualifications or willingness to complete the 18th edition C&G electrical standard.
* Lead field site operations for installations, repairs, and problem-solving, ensuring serviceability and safety.
* Ensure safety of the public and colleagues.
* Engage effectively with customers, suppliers, and senior management with excellent empathy and listening skills.
Must Haves:
* A valid manual UK driving license with a 90-minute travel requirement.
* Comfortable working at heights on roofs and high-rise buildings.
* No technical experience needed for Customer Engineer role; customer service, problem-solving, and learning mindset are valued. Relevant skills and experience will be prioritized if applications are high.
What We Offer:
We provide a daily schedule, uniform, laptop, mobile, and a van. Training includes NRSWA, PASMA, IPAF, and development towards the 18th Edition C&G electrical standard. For Specialist Engineers, attendance and passing of the electrical standards course are expected.
Benefits:
* Salary: £30,458 for Customer Engineer, up to £33,331 for Specialist Engineer after qualification.
* BT Pension Scheme, 22 days’ leave plus bank holidays, family leave, health support, private GP, carer’s leave, training, share schemes, and discounts.
Application Area:
We are currently interested in supporting customers in and around Leicester. If you’re outside this area but interested, apply and we’ll consider you for future opportunities.
