The team supports clients in securing and maintaining environmental consents, managing environmental risk and ensuring compliance during construction, while also helping to integrate sustainability requirements into project delivery in a practical and proportionate way. Assystem is currently supporting the delivery of the Sizewell C Nuclear Power Station, one of the UK’s most significant low-carbon infrastructure projects. Job Description Assystem is seeking an experienced Senior Environmental Consultant to join its Environment, Consents & Engagement Practice, supporting delivery of the Sizewell C infrastructure project. The initial role will be site-based for 3 days per week, acting as an Environmental Manager within the construction delivery team, ensuring environmental compliance while supporting the delivery of key sustainability commitments embedded within the project. Key Responsibilities Support the preparation, submission and assurance of environmental consents and permits, including discharge consents Author, implement and maintain the Construction Environmental Management Plan (CEMP) and associated discipline plans, including marine-related documentation such as Marine Method Statements and Navigational Risk Assessments Provide environmental advice to the project team, identifying and managing environmental risks, compliance obligations and site constraints, including ecological mitigation requirements Liaise with key internal and external stakeholders, including local authorities, the Environment Agency, contractors, consultants and project ecologists Ensure effective waste management and duty of care, including review of waste documentation, hazardous waste controls, reporting, segregation and WAC testing Undertake regular environmental inspections, audits and site surveillance to identify and mitigate environmental risks, including pollution prevention measures Deliver toolbox talks and training to raise environmental awareness across site teams Report, investigate and close out environmental incidents and near misses, ensuring learning and corrective actions are implementedSustainability Responsibilities (Embedded Within the Role) Support delivery of the project’s sustainability commitments, including: Carbon reduction and implementation of PAS 2080–aligned initiatives Sustainable water consumption and resource efficiency Circular economy principles, including waste reduction and material reuse Supply chain biodiversity and nature enhancement measures BREEAM Infrastructure, supporting achievement of a Whole Project Award – ‘Very Good’These activities will be delivered within the constraints of the Development Consent Order, environmental permits and existing environmental management systems. Qualifications Associate membership of a relevant professional institute (e.g. IEMA, CIEEM or equivalent) Demonstrable experience as an Environmental Manager or Senior Environmental Consultant within construction, infrastructure, energy or related sectors, with significant exposure to sustainability delivery on live projects Strong understanding of environmental management and compliance requirements on construction sites, including working within environmental permits, consents and management systems Practical experience supporting or delivering sustainability initiatives within construction environments, such as carbon reduction, resource efficiency, circular economy or biodiversity measures Proven ability to work collaboratively with delivery teams and supply chain partners, influencing behaviours and driving compliance and performance on site Highly organised and self-motivated, with the ability to manage multiple activities and competing priorities in a fast-paced environment Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to deliver briefings, toolbox talks and produce clear documentation Competent user of Microsoft Office applicationsDesirable: Full membership of a relevant professional institute or working towards Chartered status (e.g. CEnv, MIEMA) Experience working on major infrastructure or highly regulated projects Masters degree in an environmental or sustainability-related discipline Experience supporting delivery of recognised sustainability frameworks or standards (e.g. PAS 2080, BREEAM Infrastructure) Additional Information Benefits include: Pension scheme (8% company contribution / 4% personal contribution) 25 days’ paid annual leave bank holidays option to buy or sell days Professional fees reimbursed Flexible working Employee referral schemeWe are committed to equal treatment of candidates and promote, as well as foster all forms of diversity within our company.
