The role
As the Independent Peer Review Manager, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. This is a unique opportunity to influence safety standards, shape methodologies, and contribute to projects that protect national security while advancing your career in a highly specialised field.
Day-to-day, you’ll play a critical role in ensuring nuclear safety and compliance across one of the UK’s most complex and high-profile engineering environments. You’ll lead a team of specialists, manage independent reviews of safety cases and design changes, and provide assurance to senior leadership.
1. Manage Independent Peer Review (IPR) department staff and external contractors
2. Act as the Intelligent Customer for reviews undertaken by contract staff
3. Train and develop team skills to meet future corporate needs
4. Ensure peer review methodologies align with recognised best practice
5. Oversee IPR of safety cases and design modifications, issuing reports and recommendations
This role is full time, 35 hours per week and provides hybrid working arrangements.
Essential experience of the Independent Peer Review Manager
6. Extensive experience in safety-related engineering within high-hazard industries
7. Strong understanding of naval base infrastructure and submarine engineering
8. Expertise in safety analysis, including probabilistic and deterministic assessments
9. Knowledge of safety case principles, claims, arguments, and evidence
10. Ability to manage fault schedules and derive safety functional requirements
Qualifications for the Independent Peer Review Manager
11. Level 6 STEM qualification or Level 5 with substantial relevant experience
12. Chartered membership of an Engineering, Scientific, or Environmental Institution

The successful candidate must be a sole UK national who is able to achieve and maintain Naval Nuclear Propulsion Information (NNPPI) security clearance for this role.
