Overview
Under the direction of more experienced hydrologists, you will provide hydrological analysis and data following established processes and assist with providing technical assessments and professional advice on hydrological issues. You will support other hydrologists in the team on dry weather incident response and in the delivery of more complex work or projects. You will be mainly office based but there will be occasional fieldwork, for example carrying out surveys and collecting data. You will gain a practical understanding of the rivers and catchments in our Area.
Responsibilities
* Provide hydrological analysis and data following established processes and contribute to technical assessments and professional advice on hydrological issues.
* Support other hydrologists in the team on dry weather incident response and delivery of more complex work or projects.
* Carry out occasional fieldwork, including surveys and data collection, with a practical understanding of rivers and catchments in the Area.
Qualifications
* A Level/s (or equivalent) in scientific and numerical subjects (e.g., geography, biology, physics, maths, environmental science/management) or a degree/equivalent qualification in a relevant environmental discipline (e.g., Geography, Environmental Science, Ecology, Sustainability, Data Science, Geosciences, Engineering, Biology).
* Awareness of hydrological concepts (such as hydrological processes and catchment behavior) and familiarity with different types of hydrological data (rainfall, river flow, groundwater level).
* Good organisational skills and the ability to plan, track, deliver, and evaluate work to meet relevant standards and timescales.
* Interest in and enthusiasm for hydrology; experience in analysing data and information to solve problems.
* Good written and spoken communication skills; numerical and computer literacy.
* Willingness to respond to incidents as a central part of the role, with full training and alternative working arrangements provided to support the incident role. This may attract additional payment.
