This role is within the National Environmental Crime Unit. You will work as a Senior Environmental Crime Officer in the National Investigations Team, leading investigations into serious and complex environmental crimes.
Responsibilities
* Lead and coordinate investigations into serious environmental crimes, working alongside Senior Investigation Managers and the Major Incident Room.
* Identify lines of enquiry, review intelligence, raise and allocate actions, coordinate evidence gathering and interviews, and prepare case files for prosecution.
* Drive complex investigations involving Organised Crime Groups, illegal waste exports and large-scale fraud.
* Help develop the team and the wider investigative capability within the unit.
Team and context
The role sits in the National Environmental Crime Unit, part of the National Regulation and Monitoring Team. You will join a nationally dispersed team of Investigators who work to bring serious environmental offenders to justice.
Experience/skills required
* High attention to detail, hardworking and self-motivated with a strong investigative background.
* In-depth knowledge of investigative legislation such as PACE and CPIA; excellent verbal and written skills; basic IT competency (Microsoft Word, Excel and Teams).
* Knowledge of environmental crime, experience leading on serious criminal investigations, and familiarity with Major Incident Room operations are desirable.
* Experience in driving investigation teams, building capability and willingness to use initiative to find solutions.
* Successful completion of SC and NPPV2 Vetting processes is required within a 6-month probationary period.
* A full driving licence is required.
Role specifics
* This is a hybrid role with potential travel to Environment Agency offices and for meetings/operations.
* Responding to incidents is a core part of the role; you must be available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support, with training and workplace adjustments provided as needed.
