Responsibilities
* Responsible for all aspects of policy relating to ethical frameworks for audit and assurance practitioners.
* Develop the AAP Team strategy.
* Provide authoritative technical expertise to internal stakeholders, most notably to Supervision and Enforcement.
* Engage with senior external stakeholders on ethical and technical matters.
* Develop UK audit and assurance policy.
* Work closely with the Head of Assurance Technology to keep the FRC on the cutting edge of audit and assurance related technology developments.
* Deputise for the Director of Audit Policy when required to represent the AAP Team internally within the FRC and to external stakeholders.
* Provide strategic leadership on projects to ensure high-quality, coherent outputs aligned with the FRC’s objectives.
* Lead the development of UK audit and assurance policy, developing innovative approaches to keep the FRC at the forefront of influencing policy nationally and internationally.
* Take responsibility for all aspects of the ethical frameworks applicable to audit and assurance practitioners, including fee waiver applications.
* Keep the strategic landscape for audit policy under review to ensure timely, proportionate responses to emerging risks and opportunities.
* Oversee projects undertaken by the AAP team and manage the team’s portfolio of policies.
* Provide technical advice and support for Project Directors within the team.
* Collaborate with the AAP’s Head of Technology Assurance to ensure technology is considered within the project portfolio.
* Represent the work of the AAP team within FRC governance structures.
* Liaise with other teams within the FRC to support their work and position the AAP work within the overall FRC agenda.
* Engage national and international stakeholders where appropriate, including audit firms, other UK financial regulators, professional bodies and international standard setters and regulatory forums.
Qualifications
* CCAB qualification and experience working with and drafting technical audit-related standards and guidance.
* Strong leadership aptitude and project management ability to realise the AAP Team’s strategy.
* Strategic vision linking effective regulation to support growth in the UK economy.
* Excellent in‑depth knowledge of the FRC’s suite of auditing, assurance and ethical standards.
* Excellent understanding of the regulatory framework for audit, both within the UK and internationally.
* Understanding of contemporary developments in audit and assurance, including technology, sustainability assurance, and private equity in audit firms.
* Strong people skills, proven line management experience and commitment to developing self and others in the team.
* Strong interpersonal skills to manage internal and external stakeholder relationships at senior levels.
* Confident, articulate communicator capable of speaking publicly and managing meetings with senior stakeholders.
* Exceptional report‑writing skills, expressing issues clearly, balanced and concisely.
* Enthusiastic and energetic, passionate about improving assurance for stakeholders.

* Ability to identify and develop standard‑setting, guidance and project scope, assessing risk and opportunities through research and consultation with stakeholders.
* Provide support to broader FRC‑wide projects and deliverables.

Location
The role is based in our central Birmingham office.
Working Arrangement
The FRC operates a hybrid working arrangement. Employees are expected to spend around 40 % of their working time at one of the FRC offices per week, with precise arrangements agreed between the employee and the line manager.
