Overview
Are you ready to take on a role that makes a real difference? We’re looking for a self-motivated enforcement officer to lead on governance and assurance for investigations and enforcement activity within the water industry. You’ll maintain oversight of cases relating to the water industry, ensuring a consistent, high-quality approach, and help develop and grow the wider enforcement community by mentoring and training colleagues.
You will provide expert technical advice on enforcement tools, ensure governance processes are followed, and support efficient, outcome-focused decision-making in line with policy and guidance. You will monitor data, analyse trends, and report performance to help shape priorities across the team.

Responsibilities
* Lead governance and assurance for investigations and enforcement activity within your hub.
* Maintain oversight of water-industry related cases to ensure consistent, high-quality enforcement practice.
* Develop and mentor enforcement colleagues; support, train, and embed new ways of working.
* Provide expert technical advice on appropriate enforcement tools and governance processes; support policy-guided, outcome-focused decision-making.
* Monitor data, identify trends, and provide performance reporting to shape priorities; review cases to drive continuous improvement.
* Build relationships and deliver excellent internal customer service to embed the team’s work.
* Be prepared to undertake incident roles to support business continuity; roles may attract additional pay and flexible working arrangements.
Experience and skills
Essential:
* A full UK driving licence (travel across a wide geographic area).
* Experience of enforcement activity, including serious and/or complex investigations.
* Ability to analyse data, identify trends, and tackle root causes of non-compliance.
* Knowledge of relevant legislation (e.g., Environmental Permitting Regulations, Environment Act, Police and Criminal Evidence Act, Criminal Procedure and Investigations Act and its Code of Practice, Data Protection Act).
Desirable:
* Experience contributing to strategies for detecting or preventing environmental offending.
* Understanding of the Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act.
* Experience in regulation or working within the water industry.
Role and location
You can be based from Romsey, Chichester, Worthing, Pevensey, Canterbury, Addington, or Tonbridge. The role anticipates a minimum of 2 days per week on-site or in the office. You will be recruited into a specific area with a designated office base, but flexibility is important and you may work with teams in other locations or adapt to changing priorities.
