Purpose of this role
The Design Engineer – Multi-Utility Design will liaise with internal and external parties to design multi-utility networks for new housing, mixed‑use, and industrial and commercial projects.
Your Key Responsibilities
* Achieve technical competence with relevant authority and authorize design work in line with the Delegation of Authority Guidelines.
* Assist with training and mentoring of Planning Engineers.
* Undertake demand calculations, network drawings and variations and ensure network designs are fit for purpose, legislatively compliant and in accordance with Company and industry standards.
* Design innovative engineering solutions that satisfy both customer needs and internal stakeholders – provide lowest cost for greatest benefit.
* Liaise with clients to understand their project requirements and constraints.
* Calculate contract variation costs and produce variation orders for clients.
* Attend meetings with Clients, Network Operators and other companies as required.
* Liaise with other departments and companies across the BUUK group to ensure the safe and efficient construction of projects.
* Achieve high customer satisfaction with design/variation processes.
Experience / Knowledge
* Experience in construction or utilities sector.
Abilities / Skills
* Excellent communication skills.
* Proficient with Microsoft Office.
Desirable
* Engineering Degree.
* Engineering Council Membership at EngTech or above.
* Experience in the design of utilities, preferably electricity distribution networks.
* Awareness of current legislation, technical standards & specifications relating to utility distribution networks and their implications for safe network management.
