CONTRACT Manufacturing Engineer
(Must have own umbrella company to comply with IR35)
Process development, manufacturing estimates, tool development with vendors and continuous improvement efforts and to take a positive lead position in the project team.
To create, manage, facilitate and co-ordinate the successful (timely and to budget) completion of new product project plans in support of the Design groups.
Supports production team post SOP. Leads the operations project team to meet all project and APQP milestone dates.
1. Work with the design departments and outside vendors to specify tooling requirements to support new products and also to investigate and implement improvements for existing tooling.
2. To lead and participate in problem solving activities to identify root causes and to recommend sound corrective actions both practically and financially.
3. To lead design reviews, FMEA and APQP and to recommend modifications that lead to more robust designs and improve the manufacturability of the product.
4. To investigate and suggest improvements to the manufacturing process that lead to improvements in product quality and productivity on an ongoing basis.
5. Develop accurate cost estimates for the three product pillars and for any improvements to productivity that may be suggested or specified. To obtain estimates for modifications to tooling in conjunction with Supply Chain.

7. Project Management: Supports the operations project team for both carry over parts and new projects to deliver completed projects on time. Works with the Project Engineer to compile the project plan. Provide support in determination of timelines for Tooling, automated equipment, jigs and fixtures, process equipment, human resources, raw materials, logistics, packaging, subcontract processes and services, bought out parts and other supply chain requirements. Maintain up to date operations project plan (gantt chart) with clear responsibility and accountabilities in tune with the overall project plan.
8. Oversee the tooling supply process from concept tooling design, through supplier selection, tool build, T1 & T2, modifications, production trials and test into full production. Determines realistic cost of tooling and works with supply chain to achieve this cost through sensible design. Utilise Good DFA/DFM tools in support of Right First Time (RFT) tooling introductions eg: Mouldflow, Boothroyd Dewhurst and NX wizards.
