Be-IT are working with a global powerhouse to recruit a Java Vice President of Software Engineering on a full-time, permanent basis. This role can be worked through a hybrid model and is based in Glasgow.
Purpose of the Role:
To design, enhance, and refine software using diverse engineering principles, delivering business, platform, and technological solutions for customers and colleagues.
Key Responsibilities:
* Develop and implement high-caliber software solutions utilizing industry-standard programming languages, frameworks, and tools, ensuring scalability, maintainability, and optimized performance.
* Collaborate across disciplines with product managers, designers, and engineers to define software specifications, devise strategic solutions, and ensure seamless alignment with business objectives.
* Engage with peers in code reviews, fostering a culture of quality, innovation, and knowledge sharing.
* Stay abreast of emerging technological trends and actively participate in organizational tech communities to encourage technical excellence and growth.
* Adhere to secure coding standards to minimize vulnerabilities, safeguard sensitive data, and ensure the development of robust software solutions.
* Implement effective unit testing strategies to uphold sound code architecture, clarity, and reliability.
Vice President Expectations:
* Shape or influence strategy by driving requirements and proposing improvements. Oversee resources, budgeting, and policy formulation; manage operational procedures and drive continuous enhancement while addressing policy breaches.
* If leading a team: Define roles and responsibilities, anticipate future departmental needs, mentor employees on performance, and contribute to compensation decisions. May oversee specialists to guide departmental operations, ensuring alignment with strategic and tactical goals, balancing long-term objectives with financial and scheduling constraints.
* If an individual contributor: Serve as a subject matter expert within your domain, providing guidance on technical direction. Lead complex, multi-year projects, mentor junior professionals, and introduce specialized expertise when needed. Guide decision-making that impacts long-term profitability, organizational risk, and strategic direction.
* Offer advisory support to key stakeholders, including senior leadership, ensuring functional and cross-functional alignment.
* Assess and mitigate risks in support of governance and compliance initiatives.
* Demonstrate accountability in managing risks and reinforcing controls to uphold operational integrity.
* Apply a deep understanding of organizational functions to contribute toward business success.
* Collaborate with aligned business support teams to stay informed on evolving strategies.

Essential Experience:
* Java / Spring, REST APIs
* MongoDB / NoSQL
* Kubernetes / Docker
* Demonstrated expertise in building scalable, high-availability architectures on AWS (or any cloud platform)
* Strong analytical and troubleshooting abilities to navigate fast-paced environments
Highly Desirable Skills:
* Knowledge of investment banking
* Experience in developing internet-facing applications
