Do you want to apply your mixed‑methods skills to understanding how net zero initiatives in educational spaces influence the indoor environment, and the health of children and young people? Are you interested in analysing health and air quality data from school environments, together with engaging with schools to understand opportunities and barriers to improving schools for net zero and health? Would you like to work as part of a large interdisciplinary team that brings together multiple research partners, policy makers, schools and industry stakeholders?
The CHILI Hub (Child and adolescent Health Impacts of Learning Indoor environments under net zero) is a five‑year UKRI/NIHR funded project in collaboration between five universities (UCL, Leeds, Imperial, Swansea, York) and the UK Health Security Agency. The project aims to use energy and air quality modelling, indoor environmental quality data, large health data sets, and co‑creation and engagement with schools and other stakeholders to provide an evidence base for how the indoor environment in schools can affect children and young people’s health, in particular as school and nursery buildings are being adapted to meet net zero targets.
We are seeking a full‑time Research Fellow to focus on evaluating the impact of interventions in educational settings, through both quantitative analysis and qualitative approaches. You will lead the analysis of a large data set on indoor environmental quality collected in schools with air‑cleaning technology installed and connect this with data on health outcomes and school attendance. You will also engage with staff in schools to understand their views on balancing health, comfort, and energy in schools. You will have the opportunity to work with a wider team of researchers across the hub who are collecting and analysing a range of data and models for healthy net zero school environments.
