Director – HV Cable System Design
Jacobs is seeking a Principal Cable System Engineer to support a range of high‑profile projects across our Power & Energy portfolio in the UK and Continental Europe, including high voltage AIS and GIS Substations, transmission system assets, HVDC interconnectors, and energy storage systems.
Responsibilities
* Develop HV/EHV cabling systems specifications, concept and detailed design, conduct design reviews, estimation, and site supervision and support as required.
* Provide technical support to the team on all aspects of HV cable system engineering and design.
* Prepare plant and equipment technical specifications, power cable route specifications, tender specifications, technical and progress reports.
* Ensure correct and accurate interface with other engineering functions, attend and conduct internal and external meetings with clients and subcontractors.
* Perform technical calculations including cable size, rating calculations, TMF, EMF, sheath induced voltage and other.
* Verify design reviews and compliance with CDM regulations, relevant legislation and company procedures.
* Assist with temporary works design schemes and maintain good working relations with client / designer / team and supply chain.
* Guarantee that drawings and specification documents contain sufficient, accurate information for construction of the works; formally request any missing information in sufficient time to keep the programme on track.
* Complete inspection and test plans as required by the PMP / specification, ensuring dimensional accuracy and quality.
* Support factory inspections (FAT) and establish and promote best practice in health, safety and environmental matters.
* Prepare written risk assessments and method statements for the control of the works.
* Advise engineers on setting out methods and techniques.
Qualifications
* Degree (or equivalent) in Electrical Power Engineering.
* Previous experience with consultancy, contractor or utility in the energy sector.
* Extensive experience in a cable‑related role supporting FEED design and/or detailed design.
* Ability to manage and lead HV/EHV cable designs at all project stages.
* Experienced user of CYMCAP to support cable system design.
* Experience working at EHV transmission voltages.
* Experience designing HV and EHV cable systems for HVAC and HVDC systems.
* Familiarity with National Grid and DNO standards and processes.
* Work as a CDAE and TP141 authorisation.
