Design Manager Wanted
Main contractor applications are welcome from Design Managers, Design Coordinators, and individuals from architectural backgrounds looking to diversify into main contracting. Candidates should be based in the South West/South Wales region or be open to relocating.
A Design Manager opportunity exists with a well-respected and established contractor involved in building and refurbishing projects across healthcare, education, extra-care, residential development, commercial, and mixed-use sectors. The company seeks a new team member to help deliver community-focused projects. Currently, they are looking for a talented Design Manager in the Cardiff/South Wales region, working on schemes valued from £5 million to £25 million.
Responsibilities
1. Provide leadership to the design process on assigned projects.
2. Manage interfaces between the contractor and external consultants.
3. Incorporate innovative strategies into projects where possible.
4. Stay ahead of current technical issues and integrate them into schemes.
5. Engage in face-to-face interactions with clients when required.
6. Support and understand client requirements and obligations during building design development.
7. Manage the design process considering commercial, contractual, programme, and technical aspects.
8. Ensure design information complies with current legislation, standards, and codes of practice.
9. Maintain design quality and adhere to project timescales.
Requirements
* Technical understanding of building design and construction.
* Team player with good communication skills.
* Commercial awareness and ability to prioritize tasks.
* Ability to interpret and understand client requirements.
* Innovative thinking and problem-solving skills.
* Ability to develop and maintain successful internal and external relationships.
* Understanding of design questions from preconstruction phases.
* Qualifications: BTEC in Building Studies, Building Engineering, or related; HNC/HND or degree in Construction Management or Architecture.
* Experience either from operational or architectural backgrounds, willing to be hands-on in scheme delivery.
* Good knowledge of Building Regulations.
* Basic knowledge of AutoCAD and/or Adobe Acrobat.
* Strong time management and communication skills.
* Experience with healthcare projects, either new build or refurbishment.
* Current experience with regional building contractors or architectural practices, managing schemes up to £20 million from pre-construction to handover.
