**Description**
The Registered Nurse in the Emergency Department provides direct and indirect patient care. He/She applies the nursing process to plan and implement patient care, including patient and family education and continuum of care planning. The RN must possess good communication skills to effectively communicate with physicians, peers, patients, and families. He/She works collaboratively with all healthcare team members to ensure quality care and will oversee LPN practices as directed by the unit director.
**Essential Functions**
* Providing nursing care appropriate to the patient's condition and needs.
* Collaborating with physicians and healthcare professionals to deliver care.
* Establishing, reviewing, revising, and following the patient care plan.
* Administering medications and treatments within the RN scope of practice.
* Documenting patient care activities thoroughly.
* Operating medical equipment used in patient care.
* Educating patients and families about treatment, diagnosis, medications, discharge, and self-care.
* Providing care in accordance with nursing standards to promote positive outcomes and safety.
* Overseeing LPN practices.
**Qualifications**
Must possess an active TN RN license or a compact state license with the intent to obtain a TN RN license within 30 days of hire.
Required certifications include BLS, ACLS, PALS, NRP, STABLE (current or within 90 days of hire), and Handle With Care (current or within 6 months). Preferred certifications include TNCC and ENPC.
Must be able to read and communicate effectively in English and work under pressure, adapting quickly to changing situations.
