Overview
To drive continuous improvement in quality, cost efficiency, cycle time, and equipment availability across the manufacturing processes at the McLaren Composite Technology Centre. This role plays a key part in enhancing operational performance and supporting the introduction of new products and technologies.
Responsibilities
* Leading initiatives to improve manufacturing processes, focusing on reducing cycle time and scrap, enhancing equipment availability, and supporting product repairs and introductions.
* Collecting, analysing, and interpreting complex process data to deepen process understanding and inform technical development.
* Facilitating Practical Problem-Solving (PPS) activities to resolve quality issues within defined timeframes.
* Maintaining and updating production process documentation, including process flows, PFMEAs, and control plans.
* Supporting the creation and revision of production documents such as standard operating procedures, work instructions, and product standards.
* Managing engineering changes for existing production parts.
* Leading the introduction of new products, processes, machinery, and tooling into production.
* Providing feedback to the design team to ensure robust design for manufacture of composite parts and tooling.
* Acting as the primary Engineering contact for Production and Maintenance teams.
* Presenting project status updates and key performance indicators (KPIs) to stakeholders.
Qualifications
* Proven experience in a manufacturing engineering role, ideally within the automotive sector.
* Familiarity with engineering CAPEX procurement is advantageous.
* Proficient in structured problem-solving methodologies (e.g., 8D, PPS).
* Demonstrated ability to lead process improvement projects using approaches such as DMAIC.
* Skilled in handling and analysing large datasets.
* Capable of establishing accurate and relevant data collection systems.
* Experience in CAD modelling, preferably for composite components.
* Knowledge of PFMEA reviews and control plan updates is beneficial.
* Strong presentation skills with the ability to communicate complex issues clearly.
* Familiarity with structured change management systems.
* Excellent IT proficiency.
* Experience with the following processes is desirable but not essential:
* Pre-preg composite manufacturing
* High-pressure and low-pressure resin transfer moulding
