Kitchen Assistant (Bank) : Nelson
We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Kitchen Assistant to support our kitchen team on a bank basis, in delivering high-quality meals and exceptional service at Stocks Hall Andrew Smith House, Nelson. The successful candidate will assist with food preparation, maintain cleanliness in the kitchen, and ensure food safety standards are upheld. This role offers an excellent opportunity for individuals interested in developing their skills within a dynamic catering environment.
This is a bank role meaning we work around your availabilty in covering staff sickness and holidays – no regular hours making it a flexible position.
Responsibilities
1. Assist with meal preparation and food assembly in accordance with established recipes and standards
2. Support cooking activities under supervision, ensuring timely and efficient service
3. Maintain cleanliness and organisation of kitchen workstations, utensils, and equipment
4. Follow food safety and hygiene regulations to ensure a safe working environment
5. Help with serving food to customers or guests as required
6. Support stock rotation and inventory checks to ensure freshness of ingredients
7. Assist with washing, peeling, chopping, and other basic food preparation tasks
8. Contribute to maintaining a welcoming and professional atmosphere within the kitchen environment
Qualifications
9. Previous experience in catering, restaurant work, or kitchen environments is desirable but not essential
10. Knowledge of food safety standards and procedures
11. Basic cooking and meal preparation skills
12. Familiarity with food presentation and serving techniques
13. Ability to work efficiently both independently and as part of a team
14. Good organisational skills with attention to detail
15. Willingness to learn new skills and adapt to different tasks within the kitchen setting
