Overview
Wincanton Group Transport is responsible for the planning and subcontraction of over £200mil pounds of transport spend, spread across multiple sectors such as Retail, Grocery, General Merchandise, Construction and Industrial.
This function is moving from its current headquarters in Derby to a new be-spoke control tower in Nottingham. This follows on from the launch of our Ortec TMS and recent purchase of the EyeQ digital platform.
In line with anticipated growth, we have an exiting opportunity for an experienced general manager to join the control tower to manage both core fleet planning and subcontraction. The role will report into the groups head of planning.
The successful candidate will be expected to own the operations end to end planning strategy and its implementation in line with the business direction and strategic objectives, including cost control and service level agreements.
How will you contribute?
1. Delivering the strategic vision for Operational Planning team to support the Wincanton / Eye Q Business Strategy
2. Full P&L responsibility for the subcon centre
3. The day-to-day operational achievement of service and cost targets.
4. Creating, developing, and refining business volume forecasting to the required operational levels.
5. Leading and developing the Transport Planning functions. Implementing systems and processes where required.
6. Leading the subcontraction function and ensuring that the most cost-effective route to market is achieved
7. Working with the haulier management team to ensure hauliers are compliant and work with Wincanton / EyeQ Systems.
8. Providing subject matter expertise with regards to client planning.
9. Developing new forward-thinking solutions regarding network capacity to improve current planning techniques
10. Leading the design and implementation of agreed cost saving initiatives in terms of route optimisation, resourcing, and assets.
11. Being the escalation point for the service continuity and improvement plans, process changes and models to support the service and planning of the operation.
12. Owning the annual peak plan across the network in terms of resourcing, cost control, assets, and route optimisation, whilst holding Operational teams accountable for delivering these plans.
13. The planning and management of specific network events, ., peak/ bank holidays.
14. Influencing and guiding the operational network to deliver the correct service and cost.
15. Maximising efficiency and productivity through extensive analysis and inter-functional collaboration.
16. Looking at new opportunities to improve processes and client interaction to ensure real time responses to resolve client queries/ requests.
17. Leading the relationship between the Planning Team and stakeholders to ensure planning and collection requirements work cohesively.
18. Developing and introducing innovative processes to further develop operational planning
