Your new role As Head of Bus Fleet Engineering, you will lead the Bus Fleet Engineering function, ensuring the delivery of a safe, reliable and well-maintained fleet of buses, coaches, BRT vehicles and support vehicles in line with operational, regulatory and financial requirements.Reporting to the General Manager of Engineering, you will act as the professional lead for the department. You will drive performance, lead major change programmes and embed a culture of safety, customer focus and continuous improvement across the engineering function.Key responsibilities include: Leading and managing the Bus Fleet Engineering Department across a multi-depot operation Ensuring fleet safety, reliability, availability and presentation meet required standards Driving continuous improvement through lean methodologies and performance management Managing industrial relations, including proactive trade union engagement Overseeing engineering systems, maintenance policies and regulatory compliance Developing and managing budgets and capital investment plans Delivering complex engineering projects aligned to business strategy Managing supplier relationships, contracts and warranties Providing performance monitoring and reporting in line with statutory requirements Leading, developing and building capability within the engineering team What you'll need to succeed You will bring strong leadership experience within a fleet or heavy vehicle engineering environment, combined with the ability to operate strategically and deliver operational excellence. You will demonstrate: Significant management experience within vehicle or fleet engineering Experience working in a unionised environment Proven ability to lead engineering teams across multiple sites Experience developing and delivering engineering strategies Strong knowledge of vehicle maintenance and overhaul processes Sound understanding of health & safety, environmental and employment legislation Financial and budget management capability Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skillsQualifications: Degree (or equivalent) in Engineering or Management (with supporting engineering qualification such as HNC minimum if applicable) Chartered Engineer status (or working towards) desirable What you'll get in return Opportunity to lead a critical engineering function within a high-profile organisation Top salary and benefits!
