Our client operate in the Medical Devices space and focus on the design, development, and manufacturing of point-of-care (POC) diagnostic devices and wearable biosensors. They are currently looking for a Technical Lead to join their team on a permanent basis. The role is based in Livingston.
As Technical Lead you will bring hands-on engineering technical expertise to the company, helping us to deliver effective engineering solutions for our customers, from concept through to commercialisation.
You will have responsibility for a number customer projects, acting as a primary liaison between clients and our in-house team. Responsible for a small team of engineers, you will provide technical direction and guidance on projects under development. You will work collaboratively with cross functional colleagues to achieve customer outcomes.
Essentially, you will own all aspects of the project ensuring sound technical and manufacturability solutions are developed and implemented and that the product or service meets our clients’ expectations.
Key Responsibilities
* Managing several client projects simultaneously
* Representing the company as a primary client contact
* Own the design and development process for allocated projects, and ensure that all quality and regulatory procedures are adhered to
* Designing and developing solutions to complex challenges
* Interpreting customer requirements and in turn generating technical specifications and associated documents to achieve product realisation
* Authoring, overseeing, and executing protocols
* Working with technicians to produce product and process technical documents to successfully introduce new products into manufacturing.
* Establishing manufacturing processes that deliver quality product, cost effectively
* Process flow development with key attention to effect on capacity and costs.
* Communicating effectively with sub-contractors and suppliers
* Managing a small team of engineers, and directing and supporting other colleagues as and when required
Knowledge, Skills & Experience
* A minimum of degree level qualification in a relevant technical / engineering subject (consideration will be given to candidates without qualification where substantial related experience is demonstrated)
* Significant experience in a similar role in a manufacturing environment
* Competent in the use of modern manufacturing equipment (e.g. lasers, liquid dispensing, robotics) and metrology equipment (e.g. CMM, contact angle, Instron Force Testing)
* Understand Design for Manufacture (DFM) methodology
* Knowledgeable in use of 2D and 3D CAD software such as Draftsight and Solidworks
* Competent to perform statistical analysis on data using tools such as Minitab
* Competent in the use of MS Project or similar planning software
* Understand current manufacturing methods including rapid prototyping
* Understanding of process takt time, manufacture flow modelling, and part costing
* Excellent time management skills, with track record of successful management of multiple projects to tight timescales
* Experienced with Lean and Six Sigma tools and techniques
* Effective people manager, able to develop your team
Desirable
* An understanding of Good Manufacturing Practices (GmP) and Quality Management Systems
* Experience of working to ISO13485 and 21 CFR Part 820 regulations
* Familiarity with product and process validation
* Exposure to microfluidics within point of care diagnostics
* Black belt qualification in six sigma / process excellence
