Regulatory Services Manager

We are looking for an experienced and dynamic Regulatory Services Manager to oversee a diverse portfolio including environmental health (environmental protection, food safety, health and safety, housing standards), licensing, and parking. This is a senior leadership role within our Environment and Community Services team, managing 5 direct reports and a total team of 44 staff.
What you’ll do:
1. Lead and develop a customer-focused, efficient and accessible regulatory service.
2. Ensure compliance with statutory obligations and adoption of best practice.
3. Manage budgets, resources, and performance to deliver value for money.
4. Provide strategic and professional advice on environmental health, licensing, and traffic engineering.
5. Represent the council internally and externally, building strong partnerships.
6. Drive service improvement and innovation, contributing to council-wide plans and objectives.
What we’re looking for:
7. A degree in Environmental Health or equivalent professional qualification.
8. Membership of a relevant professional body (e.g., CIEH).
9. Significant senior management experience in regulatory services or a related discipline.
10. Strong knowledge of legislation and statutory requirements.
11. Proven ability to lead teams, manage change, and deliver results.
12. Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder engagement skills.
13. Political awareness and experience working in a political environment.
