RF Design Engineer Location: Stevenage (Hybrid – 3–4 days on-site per week) Salary: Up to £65,000 Are you an experienced RF Design Engineer looking for a hands-on, technically challenging opportunity within a world-class defence engineering environment? The Role As an RF Design Engineer, you’ll be responsible for the design, testing, and integration of RF circuits across a wide frequency range (30 MHz – 30 GHz). You’ll apply your expertise in RF component design, prototyping, and fault-finding to develop robust, high-performance electronic systems for use in demanding operational environments. You’ll have the opportunity to perform hands-on design proving and trials, working within a dedicated RF laboratory to validate and refine solutions through practical experimentation. Key Responsibilities • Design and test RF circuits including LNAs, HPAs, filters, oscillators, and modulators. • Conduct functional proving and environmental testing (EMC, vibration, thermal). • Perform rapid prototyping, soldering, and hands-on board modifications. • Use RF design tools (e.g. Microwave Office) for simulation and layout. • Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams to ensure design integrity. • Apply design-for-manufacture and design-for-test principles throughout the lifecycle. Skills & Experience • Proven RF design and testing experience across wide frequency ranges. • Strong practical lab-based skills (fault-finding, soldering, use of VNAs, spectrum analysers, power meters). • Good understanding of analogue, digital, and power supply design. • Experience with RF simulation and design tools such as Microwave Office. • Familiarity with manufacturing and test environments for high-reliability systems. • Excellent communication, documentation, and problem-solving skills.
